Synergy - time to expand the rack. What power amp?

What kind of tones? We talkin classic rock, heavy metal, technical extreme metal, blues, country or what? You want power tube saturation or not so much? Hi-fi clarity or more coloration?

Welp, looks like I'm done selling on Reverb.

You’re implying that $23k is a small amount? Seriously? I don’t think we should be taxed for flipping gear for our hobby, but, $23k ain’t chump change for most of us.

Marshall Did Something RIGHT With the 8100 Valvestate

So does the 8100 retain any of “the Marshall sound”? I’ve been a Death fan for ages and have never once thought, “Yep, that sounds like a Marshall”.

throaty tone with fast clear attack

OP, sounds like you want Celestion Classic Lead 80’s, unless they don’t break up enough for you. They have deep rumbly lows/low mids but are more “together” in the upper frequencies. Set the amp up all throaty chunky, EQ in the loop and try boosting anywhere from 1.5k to 3k for attack. Beyond...

Marshall Did Something RIGHT With the 8100 Valvestate

I had an XLP years ago. Nasssty solid state early 90’s death metal tones for sure. I like to keep around a pre that fits that niche, there’s also the Rocktron Maxe and the Rocktron Pro Gap but IMO the Boss GX-700 slays them all for that kind of tone and they go for like $160 and have actually...

    Let's Talk About Slayer

Pfffft, Pantera > Slayer? That’s wild. “pussies”, predictable term from a Pantera fan, indicating you equate performative “masculinity” as validation for your deep insecurities. Pantera is the metal band version of a gang of racist 20-something man baby bros yelling, “Come get some, faggot!”...

    Tell me about 4x12 cabs

Down tuned death metal. I’m not into rear loaded cabs. Best cabs in the room, all slant. Soldano (under sized, baffle is cross shaped, sort of like a Diezel). Carvin C412 Vai Legacy. VHT (pre fat bottom design). Diezel FL. Carvin (90’s?, smooth black tolex, white piping). Best recorded: Avatar...

    Synergy or Randall?

Did yours fry right away or did it happen randomly one day? I use a sliver faced Randall Ultra XL in my Syn-1, swapped it in/out numerous times with no issue. Can a fried preamp be repaired? The Ultra is the shit, I’d hate to ruin it.

    anyone tried the POD Express?

I mostly use mine for when I need to play through headphones. Also for scratch tracks when recording with a drummer. Pretty easy to dial in a decent modeler tone for FRFR or recording. I spent way too much time and failed trying to get a decent tone using it as a preamp into real tube amp &...

What would sound best:V30, Hesu Demon and 75H-Creamback in 212 vertical

If it’s harsh standing right in front of the cab but it sounds better when you’re standing off axis, try making a 3 or 4 inch diameter circle out of duct tape and sticking it on the grill over the dust cap of the top speaker. Worth a shot if you’ve never tried it.

    Creamback H75 x non vented G12T-75?

I wouldn’t do an X pattern, put both H75’s on the bottom, they’re some of the loudest speakers I’ve ever had.

Front VS Rear loaded cabs actual test

I tested this myself. It’s a big difference in the room. FL 4LYF https://www.rig-talk.com/forum/threads/are-there-any-differences-feel-tonewise-between-front-loaded-4x12s-and-rear-loaded-4x12s.289506/page-2#post-3732464

    4x12 cab "dilemma"

If you’re looking for a sleeper, Avatar Traditional or Carvin (late 80’s to present). They hold their own against expensive cabs I’ve owned (Diezel, Mesa, VHT). Check Guitar Center Used online, shipping is like $40 for a 4x12.

    Redbacks in a 4x12?

In the room they’re in my top 3 speakers of all time (incl. EVM12L & Greyhound) but for recording I have to keep repositioning the mic a bunch of times just to end with a “sure that’s okay I guess” tone. I prefer them mixed with EVM12L’s in the 4x12 as opposed to 4 Redbacks.

Thinking about getting another 4x12 cab. Need opinions.

Check guitar center used, they have 2 Avatar Comtemporary 4x12’s now. Shipping has been ~$40 IME. The Avatar Contemporary has very little resonance, even with the center brace removed I wish it had more. It’s a very clear sounding cab; it imparts very little “mojo”. Rear loaded (but I modified...

    ?? Speaker Combinations ??

EVM12L/Redback/Greyhound. Any combination out of those 3 speakers. 12L > EM12. And the 12L mixes well with a lot of speakers while the EM12 didn’t seem to mix with anything.
