I saw a post by someone from Mesa saying the stage 1 and 2 were so different that they should be thought of as different amps. I only have a stage 1 myself but am also curious.

I feel this way with all Mesa amps.

Mesa makes some amazing amps that don't achieve the recognition they should. These are definitely one of them! I am surprised at how many different sounds they are capable of.

A quick audio test: This is a new model Bad Cat Lynx 50 boosted with a Fortin Blade. The V1 tube is a microphonic RCA 12AU7 black plate.

I'm not an EVH tone chaser either. Definitely not my thing. The post was part in jest but there is definitely something going on with some of the old tubes I have. I wouldn't try them in a critical situation but in non live situations there may be a use.

It's not just about putting a mic in front of the speaker. Different parts of the speaker sound different. There isn't a single imperfect overused suboptimal method. It is an art. Multiple mics catch more of the speaker. And mixing the mics and speaker position cancels some and captures...

This is something I think is lost on many players. Some pickups are very musical and interactive, some just do what pickups do.
