I'm a recovering Tubeoholic...I actually just got rid of my Fireball 100...I am now only using the AX8 or FM9..
As has been noted..it's close enough to not worry about it. I solved the feel issue by using it with my last grasp of the tube world...Marshall 9005 power amp.
Cranking the FM9...
That is such a cool sound..do you lowpass your guitar in the mix?..what is your freq?
I am still trying to find how to consistently have that low end that doesn't eat up the whole mix.
I felt there was not enough energy in it..actually borning. That's not saying the artists were not talented..it just seemed to be....not exciting.
That said..it was a feast for the eyes..and they had some cool coreography.
But I am mostly a metal head, so therefore my opinion may be biased by my...
Gotta say Arch..the unboosted amp sounded best to me...but if I had to use a boost..from your shootout..I'd probably pick either Keely TS or the Fulltone 2.
I can agree with Smashed...unless you just have that perfect tone...it can become work to listen at mega volume...that said..my ears are either ringing or near to it when I leave practice.
Well gawwd dayaaaam..there it is.....the Grail has been found....the pants flapping pissed off chunkzilla Marshall tone..right there...good work sir.
On another note....If Magnatone can sell amps for that ridiculous price...this should be 10 grand.
I'd be interested to hear your take on it. I am using an old Alesis RA100 with the FM9. Really like it but this looks to have a bit more control over the sound.
It's your guitar...enjoy it..make it better..unless you are just a collector looking to flip..then flip it and get something that contributes to your happiness...life is too short for bullshit.
His sound and his style are super cool...I actually heard Esper first..before I heard anything off Thunder in the East.
But once I heard that chunky crunchy riff on Crazy Nights..I was into him. Kinda like if you merged the best guys at the time into SchenkGilbersteen..
Ellis is one of my current favorites..love that aggressive attack and those wailing bends and vibrato.
I used to have..and have again..the OG Parallel Axis in my Solar..ended up with the Blues Saraceno bridge in the neck and love it.
Funny...I always looked at whatever I played through..be it a Peavey Classic...an 80's rack.....A killer tube head like my Engl Fireball 100..or now the AX8 or FM9 as just a TOOL...to get not THAT sound or HIS sound...but just MY sound. I can make all of those sound like me or what I like to...
