After the first time I tried them I went with them almost all my guitars. There is just a magic to them I don't find in the usual suspects. (Seymours and Dimarzios)
The sensitivity to picking and the nuances with the volume knob you can get are the reason I love them. I have the Alnico Nailbomb...
I had a 2x12 Ampeg VH140C back in the day and it had the G12K85s..I read that they were same as the G12K100s...Celestion figured out they could handle 100 watts and relabled them.
Preamp..for my taste is the NOS Raytheon long black plates...2nd Tung Sols...3rd EH...JJs just seem too fuzzy...although had some mid gain AX7 JJs years ago that were cool. Always LPS in the PI slot.
Power amp tubes I've used Tung Sol..JJ....EH...Groove Tubes..Some Ruby EL34...Most of them have...
I remember hearing that first song...Hot on your heels...then Alcatraz..then the amazing and timeless Rising Force...man he was flame throwing compared to anyone else...and the classical tilt was fresh too...but to me he didn't really grow as a player since then...not saying that's bad, but It...
Funny (yet tragic) story...was roady-ing for a buddy back in the early 90's...his band opening for a big Chicago/National band at the Thirsty Whale ..as I was breaking down gear this guy is already bleeding out his nose and is covertly carrying more more coke in a towel and he's hooverin up...
Pearly Gates...Parallel Axis Neck..Blues Saraceno Bridge Parallell Axis in the neck..Bare Knuckle Cold Sweat...And a true gem in the neck for me is the Illuminator...super clear/defined but still creamy with nice ouput.
I had the same issue with neck pickups..either tinny and weak or bloated and bassy...I found a few over the years I like..BK Cold Sweat..BK Emerald..DiMarzio Illuminator and Duncan Parallel Axis..I'm using a Parallel Axis Saraceno bridge in the neck on one of my main guitars..sounds fantastic...
