I had a flick through some eagles vids the other day and noticed the same thing. He seems to have a black strat with a rosewood (or more exotic neck). Check out this vid, its definitely a Fender, you can see the logo on the headstock:

Go for it!
Ive not read all the replies, but you dont get many shots at things like this. Dont let them hold you back! If they are as much of a friend to you as you clearly are to them then they will understand. I bet a lot people wouldnt have the second thoughts you are having!
Try running a delay or chorus with a very short delay, that might help thicken up the sound a bit? Im not sure what style you play, but substitute power chords for open chords whenever you can, that helps the spread, but the key is to really lock in with your bass player and drummer. Good luck man!

Steve Lukather.
My parents use to play Toto records on road trips as a kid, apparently I used to jam along using my seatbelt as a guitar. Thats how I got into guitar. How embarrassing!
Good to see some fellow Deadliest Catch fiends here! Dont watch much tv:
Deadliest Catch
Mad Men (I work in an advertising!)
South Park
Futurama (Back when it was fresh, I can quote most episodes verbatim now, so its lost its appeal)
