Yep! Basically, the preamp circuit will be voiced a certain way where there is a cutoff frequency for each amplification stage. There could be steep shelving at a particular frequency that isn't pleasing to someone's ear. This can be adjusted, but the end result may not be all that great...

I was just watching where some Canadians and an Aussie went to Alabama to try to go noodling, but they wound up not being able to get anything. The guy the took them was upset with himself afterward.
