Einstein with G-Major - Lack of tone?

I do not have experience with the Einstein, but I do own the Herbert and the VH4S. I found that the TC stuff sucks tone when using the Serial Loop. You need to use the Parallel Loop and run the effects on "Kill Dry" to get the best tone. If you use "Kill Dry" and the Parallel Loop, the only...

Herbert -- Where is the EL34/6L6 switch?

Thanks. Yeah, I biased the Herbert. Right now it is something like this: SED 6L6 pair = 50% SED 6L6 pair = 60% Tung Sol 6L6 pair = 60% I'll bias them all at 60% tomorrow morning. I just wanted to jam right away, so I didn't fix the first pair. It is sounding quite good. :D

Herbert -- Where is the EL34/6L6 switch?

Ok. Thanks. I'll load it up with the 6L6s now.

    Herbert CH 2.....DOH!

I found that channel 2 (+) with midcut is great for standard tuned metal and channel 3 with midcut is great for metal that is tuned more than 1 step down. :codeak:

Herbert -- Where is the EL34/6L6 switch?

So there is not a switch that I have to set to EL34 or 6L6? I am making 100% sure before proceeding because my VH4 was smoking when I forgot to set the switch correctly.

Herbert -- Where is the EL34/6L6 switch?

This is a 2011 Diezel Herbert. I am changing the stock EL34s to SED 6L6s & Tung Sol 6L6s. The Herbert is out of the shell and I'm looking for the EL34/6L6 switch. Does the Herbert not have this switch?

    Herbert tube suggestions

Thanks everyone. I'm going to try the following tubes in the Herbert: 4 SED "C" 6L6s 2 Tung Sol 6L6s I experienced great results when I put 4 SED "C" 6L6s in the VH4S, so I thought I should try the same in the Herbert. The SED will arrive later this week. I'll post again to comment on how it...

    Herbert tube suggestions

When I'm playing riffs at LOUD VOLUMES, I get a great tone from the Herbert. However, when I play leads at LOUD volumes, the EL34s are breaking up in a way which is harsh on the ears (ice pick!!). I'm using Seymour Duncan Blackouts (AHB1) and Vintage30s (closed-back cabinet) . I've tried...

Do you buffer your effect loop?

This may be a good solution: Equipment required: Diezel amp GCX Audio Switcher GCX Ground Control Pro Decimator Pro Rack G two TC G Majors Guitar -> GCX Audio Switcher GCX Audio Switcher Loop 1 -> Decimator Pro Rack G GCX Audio Switcher Loop 2 -> First TC G Major (used for...

Do you buffer your effect loop?

I use a TC G System with the Diezel Herbert and the Diezel VH4(S). I also found that the TC G System sucks tone. The amps lose their punch. The solution is to run the G System (or any TC unit) in the Parallel effects loop. Set the TC G System to "Kill Dry". You will be able to use Delay...

Diezel Herbert = METAL GOLD STANDARD

So my new Diezel Herbert arrived. :) This is the best metal amp I've ever heard. This thing is like a bull. Cleans are very much like running the guitar through a bass amp but with more of a tube driven sound. Cleans are VERY good. Channel 2 works for metal that is more like hard rock and...

    VH4S bias trim potentiometer value?

What is the value of the bias trim pot that is used in the VH4S? Thanks.

    Hum Trimmer Replacement

While changing power tubes to 6L6 in my VH4S earlier this month, I burned (smoked!!) the hum trimmer because I forgot to set the switch to 6L6 instead of EL34. I followed the suggestion to use resistors as a temporary fix. This works, but there is a lot of hum. Would one of these parts be...

    The VH4S simply KILLS!!!

I agree 100% :) The VH4S is the best amp I've ever played or owned.

    James Hetfield tube choice?

I've tried Ruby EL34, Winged C EL34, JJ KT77, and 5881 in my VH4S. For modern metal and the clean tones, the 5881s (or 6L6s) are definitely the best. My amp tech and my brother (both guitar players) agree with my conclusion that 6L6s sound best in the VH4 for modern and metal tones. EL34 type...

Diezel VH4, switching from EL34 to 6L6 == smoke! -solved-

My friend & amp tech (bluesbreaker18) fixed the VH4S earlier this evening by soldering two 100 ohm resistors instead of the trim. Thanks to everyone for guidance. :)

Diezel VH4S - New amp not working correctly -solved-

My friend (amp tech) fixed the fried potentiometer and switched out the stock EL34s for 5881s (6L6s). I am EXTREMELY pleased with the sound of the VH4 with 5881s (6L6s). I spend most of my time playing heavy metal. When compared to the EL34s, the 5881s have a more spongy feel, more highs, and...

Diezel VH4, switching from EL34 to 6L6 == smoke! -solved-

Hey Everyone, Thanks for your quick responses. This was my fault. I told my friend (amp tech) that there was no switch from EL34 to 6L6. I did not see the switch when I took the chassis out. By the time it was flipped over, it would be almost impossible to spot because it is between a cap...

Diezel VH4S - New amp not working correctly -solved-

I was unaware of the switch. It was hidden between a cap and a power tube. I could not see it because I already had the chassis flipped upside down. The potentiometer went up in smoke because the switch was on EL34 when 6L6s were in the amp.

Diezel VH4S - New amp not working correctly -solved-

My friend is an amp tech. He was helping me try out some 6L6s. This didn't end well for the VH4S. He posted details here --https://www.rig-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=77816 I cannot try switching out V5, V6, V7, and V8 right now. But as soon as the amp is up and running again, I...
