Don't buy from WB. He's a rip-off artist, and when he does follow through, he took 2 months with me calling 1-2 times a week pestering his Wife cause he was never there... Dude sucks. And his pickups weren't that good. I had a HELL and ULTRA VIOLET.
If your looking for something new Check out...
I installed a painkiller in the bridge of a Dean (not sure the model, double cut made in the USA) for a friend of mine, and it sounded nice and sharp like a good high output bridge pickup should. Nothing like a neck pickup tone.
I've read the info on BK's site a few years back when it came out, always intended on purchasing one... :aww: Who am I kidding, I am a gear-a-holic...
I just bought one. I've had 2 WCR Iron Man's and still have a MCP Solution which I like a lot...The Warpig is going in my custom built Mockingbird which is a finicky guitar. Very dark sounding, the solution is the best sounding pickup I've used in that particular guitar. So tell me about the...
Mike B. from Boogie told me to try it...Who's this Doug again? I know who Doug is and have bought tubes from him, but I think I'll listen to the guy who works on and helps design Boogies.
I've got two .50Cal+'s, love them! Try this, V-1 and V-3 are the Lead channel preamp tubes. Mess around with those, I use NOS tubes in those positions. Old NOS Teslas, and a Mazda Bugle Boys are my current favorites, Although RFT's and old RCA's and GE's work great too.
Another trick I use is...
I had a VHT D-120, It was the LOUDEST amp I've ever owned, didn't have enough gain, everytime I turned it up loud enough to sound good, I was drowning out my bassist and drummer!
The other guitarist in my band uses a DC10 and his GEQ is different than the GEQ on his MKIII. But the way he dials it in it sounds the same. And he dimes the gain on the lead channels of both, and again, the sound alike.
As far as Monstatone goes, he's the real deal. I sent my 89 .50Cal to him...
I never got the whole sounds like a cross between a Recto and MKIV thing. I've owned 3 Recto's and neither of my DC-10's sounded like a Recto. Think MKIII Lead channel, MKIV clean channel. Great amps.
I'll throw one in here that hasn't been mentioned. The Ibanez WD7 (weeping demon wah). After my old crybaby from 92 got stolen, I bought a new crybaby classic, as well as another old 93 crybaby, didn't care for either, they just didn't sound like my old 92 crybaby. Well neither does the Ibanez...
Joey Z from Life of Agony. What an asshat. My old band opened for them years ago, they were finishing soundcheck and I was on stage plugging my stuff in and he tells his guitar tech to make sure I don't fuck with his gear, now bear in mind that I've been in bands that have opened for Crowbar...
I'm not doubting you, apparently Boogie was interested in using JJ's for everything but the rate of tube failure was not accecptable to them ( could have been the price too? But that's just speculation on my part...). Again, if you go over to the "Tube" section on the Boogie Board Forum there's...
