Definitely has that tight bottom end and fast attack I’ve heard in a few other clips. There’s something about the mids that are distinctive too (I don’t mean “haunting”, in case you were wondering).
Congratulations @Yehuda! You’re a bit of a beast when it comes to getting hold of these rarer amps - hats off to you. Looking forward to hearing some clips and how it stacks up to your Steavens.
The majority of heavy relic Gibson I’ve seen have a really strange finish on the backs and necks. It’s like the finish is raised and bobbling - like crazy paving. Feels and looks really weird. I have a beat up ‘73 LP Custom which has natural lacquer cracks and the ML heavy relics I’ve seen look...
Had a CS Strat a few years ago with this neck profile and loved it. Nowadays no real preference - I’ll happily play from ‘59 LP necks to ESP Standard Series thin. That said, I tried a KH2 Hammet not too long ago and didn’t like it much (too flat up high) and I can’t play baseball bat ‘58 Gibson...
Managed not to buy any new amps these past 12 months - but I’ve really wanted to. What stopped me was looking around my house and noting all the ways I could improve it. It’s an old house (126 years and counting) so there’s plenty I can do - it’s endless. The thought of buying another amp that...
That’s a more sophisticated solution than mine. I used two coins wrapped in sellotape, held in place by some double-sided sticky foam. Seems to be working so far - trem stays balanced and the coins haven’t fallen out when using the term (yet).
Good suggestion re using the loop as a master. I have a Headfirst MCII build from the pre-Alta days. The amp has always sounded really good, but I saw a video from Jason yesterday in which he said always has the loop switched in. Switched in the loop and started using the loop control as a...
Picked up this Standard Series ESP Horizon on Monday. Sold off a LP Special that wasn’t getting any use and rolled the cash into this. I’ve always liked the look of the ESP Mii and Horizon, but I’m a sucker for a carved top so the Horizon edged it.
It came with the trem floating and tuned to D...
An early serial number Rev G (black with chrome control panel) has been up for sale in the UK for a good few months. It was priced at £2k, now down to £1,700. It’s a US model which is no doubt part of the reason it’s sitting, but that should give you an idea of where you can think about pricing...
Based on those particular captures, the Mr Scary or KSR get the nod from me. The GZ was super bright and didn’t sound like the demos of the actual amp I’ve heard before. As others have said, Hermanssons just seem like a different beast.
Always thought it would be interesting to see a series of knobs (alongside the regular controls) controlling the fundamental voicing/feel/character of the amp, but reflecting the words we generally use to describe this stuff. Eg:
Chew <—> Kerrang (or Grind)
Bounce (or Sag) <—> Tight
Huge <—>...
