Same.
The Bad Horsie, my version is from the first run in the mid-90s, has a certain “thing” to the eq that works great into a lot of distortion. I don’t like it for bluesier applications/single coils.
That switchless feature is great.
Be sure to get one that has el-34s.
And, get the capacitor that feeds voltage to the preamp tubes replaced with a beefier one.
That is one of the “issues” with the SLX.
Gotta love those MiJ Les Pauls!
Picked up an Edwards Sykes clone a couple of years back. Totally scratched my Les Paul itch.
Paid about 1/3 what a decent Gibson would’ve cost. Had Graph Tech nut and saddles installed, so it’d stay in tune. Swapped out the Duncan SH-6 at the bridge, for a Pariah...
It was killer.
Getting to see those guys play thst shit live, was insane. My amigo, who was a photographer, and I, snuck in his camera and a lens, in our jacket collars under our hair. So, he got the photos.
I saw Cacophony about a year later in SF. No photos, sadly.
My Top 10(in no order)
EVH
George Lynch
Eric Johnson
Steve Vai
Allan Holdsworth
Jeff Beck
Shawn Lane
Michael Schenker
And for 9 and 10, all the players from Shrapnel’s golden era ‘85-‘95.
I have a Duncan “Alternstive 8” in my LTD Desert Eagle. I like it. It’s sorta dark sounding, and it’s pretty hot. But, I would think it would work really well for modern metal applications.
