I used a monitor/room mic that came with my monitors to measure the room and how the monitors sound. I was able to make adjustments to my monitors and it made a significant difference on how I hear things now and how they sound on other systems.

Holy moly! Not exactly a cheap guitar to mess up on. I mean, in all seriousness, put a rookie on something that is a lot cheaper. Idiots. Everyone has to learn but don't do it on a custom shop Gibson. When I was taking my courses, I was practicing on cheap throw out or discarded guitars.

I have 4 JP15s - 3 x 6 string, 1 x 7 string. Its the guitar that is the most comfortable for me to play.

100% truth! The indo Sterlings are awful. I've repaired a pile of them for customers. The last one was a Sterling St. Vincent with 12 of the frets that needed to be re-glued. Ridiculous.
