FWIW, IMO Greenbacks are not suited to low tunings.
I've only tried EVH cabs in stores. Wasn't particulary impressed, but also not a fair shake at store volumes.
Settings? Lots of everything but bass. They were not set the same, they were each set where I thought they sounded best in the room.
I like a lot of mids knob in my rectos and even with that every other recto I've tried kind of disappeared in the mix. I'm still thinking that won't be the...
Just threw this together so I could hear how the DR RI records vs. an OG Rev G Triple. Pretty sure I can hear the mids that have me thinking the RI could work well live. This is straight in red channel, NO boost.
0:00 90s Dual Rec RI full mix
3:42 Triple Rec Rev G full mix
7:23 90s Dual Rec RI...
If you need an amp that punches & moves air, don't get your hopes up with the VII. The one I had moved about as much air as a modeler. ...But I digress.
Update.. I've played various Mark IIs and IIIs, various Rectos including the RI, various JCM800s, and a JTM45 through the 1960TV cab so far and they ALL have sounded amazing through it. Just a fantastic cab!!
Guess you're going to have to try one for yourself! Opinions are impossible to quantify.
If I found a great deal on an OG 2ch I also wouldn't pass it over- but when you're comparing guys asking $2500-$3500 for Gs and Fs I'd personally take the RI all day long.
To me how an amp sits in the...
IMO the Badlander is a fantastic rock amp, If you're looking for the cuts not the chugs. When I had one I just had the metal band & I moved it, now that I have an 80s rock band I'd love to give one another go.
So, I've now had 17 Rectifiers. I've owned or played every version with the exception of Rev D & Rev E. With that in the rearview, I feel pretty strongly that the new Dual Rec Reissue is the best Recto ever made. This is a pretty crazy & bold statement since "reissues are never as good as the...
I'm actually pretty interested in trying the HRG. I'm not a Simul fan, and the odds of a Coli RI are about as good as Mustaine truly forgiving Hetfield so...
Also like with cars, it's always a good idea to wait till the second model year comes out so they can work out the bugs. (DRG+ *cough*)...
FWIW T75s are a scooped speaker, and they really need some volume to do what they do. Plus they are a little picky about what head they like IMO. In the future it would be good to try & capture some clips for us to check out.
I played a new 70s LPC last night against my R8 & my '68 LPC. It's a VERY different guitar!
The neck is thin & flat. Very not LP like.
The PUPs have a lot of detail, in that..
The tone is all mids & no ass. It won't thump you like a 58, 68 or modern LPC will.
That said, it's a 100% ROCK guitar...
*SOLD*
For sale is an all original Mesa Mark III red stripe SG head. (60W, GEQ, NO reverb) It's in perfect working order. Condition as seen in photos. Asking $2000 shipped (to US).
I've slaved all the Marks into the M180 I had, it was maaaassive. And easy- it sets up in seconds. IMO destroying two perfectly good amps to try & make a frankenstein is much more difficult and probably not worth it in the long run.
I would recommend rack mounting the C+ along with the D180...
@Ryan990 HUGE stamp of approval for Ryan! We had a trade deal that involved the gear coming to me getting damaged in shipping (by no fault of his) and Ryan was a rockstar in working with me to get everything sorted out including a lengthy insurance claim. High levels of communication & trust...
I had a 1W, a 5W and a 20W. They were all rippers, though the 1W was (obviously) crazy quiet. The 5W was my favorite, IIRC it was Class A?
Killer amp for the money. IIRC Mike Fortin designed.
