I think you can get made in Japan ones now. I have a Swedish custom shop. It's pretty impeccable without being lifeless. I bought it thinking I'd just use it for shred prog type stuff but I use it for a lot more than that.

I have an OG SLO and a 100B. I find them different enough to have both. Viola/cello is how I think of them. Don't think I like one more than the other. They each have their own uses. Both have a pretty wide range of tones from clean to lead.

Yeah. I rarely use a pedal in front of an xtc unless it's in plexi mode. I have plenty of other amp options if I'm wanting wilder or more aggressive. I use my xtc for what it likes to do.

If it's that red 100a, that's the 100a I owned. I sold it to the guy posting those clips. It has plenty of gain. That's the amp Vai used on Tender Surrender (like the actual amp. It used to belong to cliff cultreri.) All XTC's have a bunch of gain, it's just smooth, singing gain. Not hairy...
