John Mayer may have never thrown a baseball before this

That was perfectly fine. McGregor's pitch was much worse.

    Guitar Street Japan

Congrats! We had to scrap a plan to see Tokyo this year since it conflicted with my son's football season, but someday.

    Cases and fret wear......

Some guitars come with a plastic sheet to put between the strings and frets. If I don't have one of those, I put a few pieces of packing paper between the strings and frets. If the guitar is going to consistently be stored in the case for a while, I would definitely put something between the...

    So I bought a Tonex

That's what I love about making your own captures: it's really just plug and play. I just dial up an amp. A few minutes of crazy noises from the Nano Cortex profiling process and then it's done. I have that sound in a tiny box.

    So I bought a Tonex

I like the idea of the Tonex but only if I use my own captures, so I might get one (or the Darkglass thing) if I end up with a personal computer capable of taking the captures. Right now I use a Nano Cortex (it can take the captures itself) and am very happy with it. I think the captures turn...

    Lightning bridge

I didn't believe that was a thing until I got a mid-90s LP with a flat bridge and action way too low on the middle strings. Was not a big deal. I just filed the saddle slots deeper for the outer strings until the action was even again. But it was weird to see it actually had happened.

These look like a great idea for folks that don't like top wrapping.

Is the Marshall 1960TV the best rock cab there is?

I had one from the early '90s but thought it was a bit zingy compared to a 1960AC with the same speakers, but it was a neat cab. It was a bit scooped and more aggressive sounding I think.

What is your go to cab/speakers??

My fav is a recent 1960AV. It always sounds good to me. I have a greenback 1960AC and an Oversized Recto 4x12 that I use for specific things. The greenbacks sound good for a rounder, less thrash more rock tone. The Recto cab is more laidback and relaxed than the 1960AV.

Les Paul bridge pickup, F space or not?

No, the other Gibsons have Gibson pickups. I'd tried regular spaced Duncans in that R8 and they didn't cover under the low E string. The Dimarzio F-Space is perfect. Duncan Trembuckers are wider but I didn't bother to try one in that guitar (because I wanted a nickel cover and to use the normal...

Les Paul bridge pickup, F space or not?

It's weird because I have three actual Gibson LPs (all reissues) and two of them line up fine with normal spacing but one of them needed an F-Spaced Dimarzio like this. I have some Japanese LP copies too, and they all line up with normal spacing.

Les Paul bridge pickup, F space or not?

It depends on the guitar. I have an R8 that needs an F-spaced pickup. My other LPs do not. In my experience, the spacing matters. If the pole spacing is too narrow, my up-strokes in the low E string sound weak and splatty (down stroke sounds fine). It's worse the lower the string tension...

PSA 50Watt Wizard Vintage Classic at Nashville GC

Descriptions of Wizards always sound like the how people describe Vox vs Marchless. I've had some nice AC30s and a DC30. The Vox was nearly always more "pleasant" sounding. The Matchless nearly always had this hard, harsh sound to it.

Has Celestion Changed the Construction of Mesa Vintage 30s?

I've not read through the thread (sorry) but I have V30s from 1991 to 2020 or so. The magnet use to be thicker and the cone was visibly different, changing around the time production moved out of England. How that affects the sound I dunno. I love the sound of the 1991 quad but also love my...

Need a buffer? Maybe you already have one. Possibly useful trick

I used a CAE Line Driver turned all the way down as a transparent (to me at least) buffer pedal. For some reason my Quad Cortex had a really like whine/whistle that disappeared with a buffer in front of it.

I think I got it…PS-2A isn’t working well for me

Fwiw I've used the power station with two different 1959s and neither did anything with the power station that they didn't also do when just cranked up on their own.

    *Update* RIP Gibson LPC

fwiw the last few LPCs I've played have been very consistent. So if you loved the way this one played, should be able to find another you like easily. Wont look the same, tho.

    Chinese James Tyler

So I actually really like Tyler guitars. And I think some of the premium Chinese made guitars are nice (the MIC Warwick basses are great). But these seem odd. Part of the allure of a Tyler is the price I think. So a budget line doesn't make any sense to me. If it's just another $1800 nice...
