I think the whole tone in the fingers thing is mostly how hard you pick and and how aggressive you attack the fretboard.
Those two make a huge difference, however, so does the gear.
It's both together so the old saying is half true.
I been using the same JB pickup since 1988. It has been in a dozen guitars throughout the decades. I am honestly not liking that sound too much anymore.
I once had a GC salesman try to to convince me that a little solid state amp that was on sale for a little over 100 bucks was an all tube amp.
I laughed and asked if he was serious? Yes he was. LOL
I have an old tube tester a co-worker gave me that I sometimes I use but most of the time I just use my guitar amp with a couple fuses handy. LOL Best tube tester there is as it tests everything including how good it sounds. I use my amp too when matching a bunch of various used power tubes to...
I just sold a bunch of pedals on CL. I sold a brand new Boss DS-1 for 20 bucks. There were about 5 other listings for the same pedal but in worst shape asking 40 -50 bucks.
You have to sell for dirt cheap or people will buy used gear on line w/ free shipping.
I'd rather buy a used pedal with...
The problem I always have when using a boost in the loop is that the volume is too sensitive. Very hard to dial in the right volume because if I move the volume / level just a hair too much, its way off. That goes for using the Boss GE-7 as well.
My secondary amp for slaving is a Marshall DSL40CR. I plug into the FX loop return & I can adjust the volume with the master volume
& can use the reverb, presence & resonance controls.
I tried that with my friends Fender Hot Rod something and the master volume was before the FX loop so I had no...
I guess they're using up their inventory, slowing down production and selling their amps for double what they were three months ago.
They'll start using Chinese tubes if they're not already.
My quad is mis matched by about 12 mA and it sounds fantastic. I pair the highest with the lowest and hope both sides balance out within reason.
I think having matched tubes is not that necessary and is over hyped. As long as that they're not too far mis-matched, the amp works properly and...
People hear with their eyes. LOL I used a 4 x12 with a 100 watt marshall for years in small bars and clubs. I used an attenuator so I could turn it down to bedroom volume if I wanted.
So even when I turned down to practical listening volume for the whole band and audience, I looked too loud...
I have a Bray LO-1 Line Out out box from my PLEXI going into a DSL40CR's FX Loop Return. Sounds incredible. I also have an attenuator hooked up to the PLEXI feeding a cab.
The Line out feeds a delay and boost for solos before going into the DSL. I crank the DSL's reverb for now but...
