I tried a quad of new matched Winged Cs many years ago, 2009 maybe? in my old Superlead and they sucked so bad. Horrible tone. bad quad of tubes? Perhaps.
I put JJ 6CA7s in and they sounded way better. As a matter of fact, they're the best sounding tubes for my amp.
Cool video for marketing pickups for sure!
For VH tones I just adjust my EQ pedal. Done. Doesn't matter what pickup I have as they all have enough output, especially for the older VH stuff done with his Plexi.
For me, I can't really tell any difference between using vintage Mustards, Orange Drop or Xicon types in my old marshall. I used all three in the past for repairs and mods & they all sound the same to me in my amp.
Right now I have a Marshall 4x12 1960B Classic cab w/ with 25 watt greenbacks made in England & an Avatar open back 2x12 with a vintage 30 and a G12T-75. The Avatar sounds much better with my Marshall 1959 MkII Superlead even though the 4x12 is supposed to be the holy grail with that amp...
I've use quads that where 10 -12 mA apart in the past. I move them around until each side V4,5 & V6,7 are as close as possible when adding the mA measurements together for each pair. This way, usually the pairs only end up with a few mA difference. Always sounded good to my guitar beatin' to...
thanks for pic! i can’t wait to to try this but i’ll be very busy the next week or two. maybe i’ll stay up late one night with some coffee and give it ago anyway. lol
Man, I'll never forget Mic Mars' white Warlock. That was the 1st I ever heard of BCR. I thought that was the coolest looking guitar ever. Keep in mind that was around 1983. LOL
I tried that circuit without the 1 mg pot. At pin 8 V2, I attached a 10K, .22uF and two 20 volt zeners, on/off switch to ground and didn't notice anything, even with the volume cranked with attenuator.
my amp is 100 Superlead.
here's a pic of my crude test set-up fro testing.
I didn't take a...
Just thinking...Ya know, I spent years on the metro forum trying all kinds of specs and mods and after learning about the Jose clipper mod, I'm not surprised if Ed's amp had clipping diodes, especially in the beginning before others got their hands on it for restoration. who knows, right?
maybe...
