If you can find an original (NOS) RFT 12AX7 for V1, this will make the overall tone slightly thicker/bolder, maybe a hint smoother.
And then throw in 2 5751's in V3 and V4 to tame the red channel. These are 70% gain opposed to 100% gain that a standard 12AX7 brings.
The character remains, it...
You know you can remedy that a bit with rolling a few different preamp tubes and pairing it with not-too-bright speakers, right?
I run my 6L6 EVH 50W (v1) through a vertical Mesa 2x12 or like most recently, through a full 3/4th stack of Marshall 2x12s, that have smooth G12-65's or...
Yeah, thinking back, I should've probably said "Animalize/Asylum" instead of Creatures.
It's just... I was always a big Ace fan (early stuff and his cackle laughter) and he didn't play at all on Creatures...
And don't get me wrong, those two albums ain't no gems either, but they had Tears Are...
I think part of the problem was, them being 90's heads, they would usually be paired with 90's (Marshall) cabs...containing...90's T75's.
--->Tubby Screech City.
If you have an SL-X and hook it up to a Greenback loaded cab, or a JCM800 cab with G12-65's, you'll probably end up with a decent...
I joined my first death/thrash band when I was 16... and they knew I was into Kiss, just like our bass player was (we always did the Paul and Gene faces in some rock bar when they played "I was made for lovin' you") so, when I turned 18, the other bandmembers got me a birthday gift... "Unmasked"...
AC/DC - Highway to Hell
Boston - Boston
Dire Straits - Dire Straits
Pink Floyd - DSOTM
Van Halen - Van Halen

Same here. I think the vented and non-vented '86 are two different tones, but both perfectly useable...
Slightly prefer the vented in the mix, although it's close to being a toss-up and the non-vented solo'd.
The 2013 however.... Ooff. :cautious: Almost reminded me of late 90's Boss' COSM...
While I don't disagree on Holdsworth and Poland, I'm calling bullshit on your sweeping statement.
Plenty of guys that were mentioned here could play a few notes and you could easily identify them purely based on phrasing.
If a guy like Akira Takasaki is not unique enough, name one guy that...
Purely based on AJFA I would go with the non-vented ones, because the album tone is hardly middy and the vented ones will have richer/thicker mids, more akin to the G12-65s, so those would probably yield too much mids in combination with a Mesa Mark, even if you're scooping the hell out of it.
I saw Motörhead in '98 as well, even nabbed the setlist from the stage afterwards!
It's one of the 3 defining moments that gave me some form of tinnitus.
It was soooo loud, afterwards I didn't even hear the high pitched ring you usually hear after a loud show, but it sounded like a gas-leakish...
While I don't disagree with this assessment, please let it be clear that when you're talking about non-vented early ones (with the serifed font label), they are no where near as scooped or even fizzy as the later ones were.
Source: I got both.
But yeah, the vented ones are pretty close...
I owned the BE-OD Deluxe for a while and built a clone (Thermionic Deluxe) with a slightly tweaked mid range.
It's response is quite amp-dependant, but IMO it's one of the best 9V powered (non tube) stand alone drive pedals that really sounds amp-like.
I lowered the internal gain trim pots for...
Lemme be Switzerland between you guys. :giggle:
I'm with @GuitarGuy08 that I'm not interested in having to add a dedicated tuner pedal to hog up pedalboard real estate as well as the possibility to tone suck. Looking at you, Boss TU-2. :cautious:
I usually don't gig with 'pre-amp' pedals...
