Are there any differences feel/tonewise between front loaded 4x12's and rear loaded 4x12's?

    1) Yes, egg crate foam on the rear panel. 2) Yes, the interior length and height are both 27.25”. Is that some sort of enclosure design issue?

Are there any differences feel/tonewise between front loaded 4x12's and rear loaded 4x12's?

I’ve never seen a quality cab with a thin rear panel; all the ones I’ve owned have been the same ply that the sides/bottom/top are made out of. If it’s properly sealed I doubt there’s any difference and IME a “fully sealed” cab sounds just the slightest bit different from one where a little air...

Are there any differences feel/tonewise between front loaded 4x12's and rear loaded 4x12's?

Alright, so I used a router to modify my Avatar 4x12 Contemporary to be front loadable and did a back to back comparison. FL definitely increases the high end. Walking around the room the cab was no more or less directional but the increased highs can fool you into thinking FL is more...

I am an asshole (SD-1 content)

The SD-1 is not for me, cuts too much low end. The one I had was 1985 MIJ. Everyone says it's the perfect match for Marshalls, I don't have a Marshall but I did try it with JCM 800 preamp clone into KTG 2100, much prefer an OD808 or TS9.

    Anyone Rockin’ a Myasnikov Preamp?

Good point, I think I remember Steven Fryette explaining in a video about the Synergy IICP that the GEQ is not at the end of the circuit. I got great tones out of both iterations but boosting the Myasnikov sounded nasty whereas the Synergy was more flexible. I don’t really prefer one over the...

    Anyone Rockin’ a Myasnikov Preamp?

I had his Savage (“Angry As Fuck”) along side the Synergy Savage and they sounded the same except the tone knobs had different frequencies and tapers. Both are awesome. I had his IIC+ and now have the Synergy IICP but there was a gap between owning them. I think they’re similar but a bit...

    Modelers suck

Power amp modeling is currently the weakest link in the modeler chain. Latest modeler I had was the FM3, as a preamp it was pretty close to sounding/feeling analogue and there’s some convincing IR’s out there but it just didn’t have the feel of real power tubes and if you tried to adjust power...

Are there any differences feel/tonewise between front loaded 4x12's and rear loaded 4x12's?

Man, that's interesting you guys having the opposite experience with FL vs RL beaminess. I've had 5 RL 4x12's and 6 FL 4x12's and now that I think about it, all of the RL's were straight cabs and 5 of the 6 FL's were slant or at least upwarded angled flat baffle. I have a straight RL 4x12 cab...

    Modelers suck

This is the dumbest fucking thread. Steak vs pizza! And the lynch mob ensues. Some of y’all haters are deep in the closet modeler-curious. I play a modeler as a preamp into real power amp & cab so I guess I go both ways.

    Fluence Modern - Muddy?

Might be worth pulling out the soldering iron and bypassing the tone pot. I had a guitar where the tone knob absolutely murdered the tone regardless of setting. Must have been a bad resistor, or maybe the wrong value, it made the guitar super dark & dull.

Are there any differences feel/tonewise between front loaded 4x12's and rear loaded 4x12's?

Of the cabs you listed, if it’s a front loaded Bogner you could easily convert it to rear loaded for an apples to apples comparison. Get some longer screws from the hardware store and nuts for the screws in order to make the T nuts work from the opposite side. Front loaded is punchy, focused...

Gig cab with Redback and Creambacks?

Best pairing I found for the H75 was ET90. Best pairing for CL80 was ET90 as well, awesome heavy thrash tone. I love Redbacks and CL80’s but pairing them was nothin to write home about. Didn’t your H75’s overpower your Redbacks? So damn efficient.

    Krank Krankenstein: Yay or nay?

I had the KT88 version for a hot minute, Craigslist deal of the century I couldn’t pass up. I think the hate this amp gets in here is mostly due the image, etc. related to this amp. It was actually a good amp, interesting tone. It sounded like it had some Marshall dna but not so much I would...

    Modelers suck

All the Johnson Millennium talk in this thread brought back a memory. It was the late 90’s, I’m a teenager at the music store shopping for an amp. Sales dude wants to show me an amp, he’s got acid washed jeans, white hi tops, mullet, he looks like Eric Johnson if he was an 80’s butt metal guy...

The reason rock music will die

How do you guys feel about drum quantization? I’m of the opinion that if you quantize, you literally cant play the song so you shouldn’t be recording/releasing it. Charlatan beats. No one’s quantizing guitar riffs, right?

The reason rock music will die

I feel ya. Quit. Start a band with people that have compatible goals. Put it all on that table up front, expectations, goals, deal breakers. Leave no wiggle rim for stonewallers, lazy asses, do nothings or the “rock stars” who are no where to be seen until it’s time for the show. It’s like...

I tested if speaker break in is fact or fiction

I use my DAW to record some clean riffs, mostly down tuned palm mutes since my goal is to get those cones really moving and I play the recording on loop through the mounted speakers at loud drummer volume. IME about 60 hours will make a noticeable difference on most speakers but some of the high...

    I think I want a Synergy Rig

I have a Syn-1, favorite modules so far are Powerball, Ultra Lead and IICP. They sound great. My only gripe, and it prevents me from considering a Synergy setup for live use, is there’s no module with a clean that’s clean enough for my EMG’s. The TDLX breaks up way too fast, the OS even worse...

    Hosting a small music festival?

What kind of draw do these bands have and how are you going to promote the show? Pretty easy to end up with a big circle jerk of bands if you don’t have the fan base and promotion in check. I’ve seen this happen, same setup with a festival on rural acreage, guy running it did jack shit to...

Mixing speakers in a 2X12 or 4X12 is ok, but.....

I always mix. Only ever mic 1 speaker live, blends is too risky (shitty sound guys can’t hear the phase issue). Mic position changes the EQ so drastically that there’s no need to worry about your EQ blend you normally get from the speakers. Both speakers are awesome on their own anyway. 99.9%...
