I think this could definitely be a winner. The clips can come across as a bit harsh/sterile but there's no denying it's one of the most brutal tones I've heard. $$$$
I've seen these mentioned and always kinda dismissed them due to SS. After reading up on them some more, and reading about the stereo, it's on the list. Thanks!
To be honest, I have my high gain tones covered: A couple of Marks (Green Stripe ++ and IVb), a Monomyth Skeleton Key, Headfirst Alta, and a Diezel VH4. But I'm wanting something just over the top, balls to the wall chug machine. My most recent attempt was the Uber Ultra, and it was close but...
That was my initial thought as well, but actually a lot of people say they prefer the Iconic. I need to try one of these, probably the 80 watt head though.
I would avoid Nesstone. I ordered $500+ in tubes from Craig a while ago. One KT88 and one EL34 were DOA. Granted I did not discover these issues until the return window expired, but I emailed him asking for help. He responded saying yes he'd help me out and then just ghosted me. Several...
I haven't spent much time with the DRECT, so I'll have to report back. The mid gain crunch tones are awesome, but initially I've been less impressed with the high gain chugging tones. I think it's just the nature of Rectifiers in general - I've owned a Multiwatt and a Badlander, and neither can...
The Uber Ultra is pretty awesome, but ultimately I found it to be too dark for my liking, and a bit sterile/cold sounding (aka opposite of organic and warm). Hard to find words to describe it exactly, but it's pretty low mid focused. It has a fuck ton of gain for sure, which I loved. I could...
I currently have the Uberschall, Powerball, IICP, 6505, and DRECT. I've also owned the Pitbull, Deliverance, Ecstacy, Savage, 800, and both Soldanos. Needless to say, I've tried a lot of the high gain modules! The Uberschall is my favorite for metal, so much that I sold my Uber Ultra after...
Thanks for all the great recommendations! I decided to give the V-Boutique V Cube 2x12 a shot. It's about the size of the largest 1x12's like the KSR, but I'm hoping it sounds even bigger. If anyone else is interested, this cab is currently on sale through Reverb. I'm sending them a stereo jack...
Those KSR 1x12's are huge. Looks like the V-Boutique 2x12 Cube is even an inch narrower. I'd have to think the 2x12 would sound bigger, but perhaps 2 12 inch speakers crammed into an enclosure could sound just as boxy?
Yes indeed, and it was a great setup on many levels. In the end I just felt like it wasn't the best fit for me. Gear whores are always looking for excuses!!
Thanks for all the input! I should have clarified that I play mainly hard rock, metal, and ambient clean tones. I realize at the end of the day I'll just need to experiment, but it's hard to know where to begin. Honestly it may come down to what I can find locally as I'm not too keen on buying...
As much as I dislike 1x12's, I am needing some small/portable cab(s) for travel, possibly a pair stacked or separated for a stereo rig. I have tried a number of different 1x12's in the past, and after much disappointment I gave up and have been carting around 4x12's for years. Totally worth it...
Good catch, yeah I re-discovered this clip from a couple winters ago. Sadly, I have since sold the Carstens Grace. I got in on the first run, and after the fact confirmed that for my needs I absolutely needed an effects loop. I emailed back and forth with Brian asking if he would add one, and to...
Haha, I know right! My wife was recording and I guess got scared and pressed stop. Pretty evil tones so I can understand lol.
Rest assured I turn down when my daughter's around, but sometimes she sneaks up on me!
