Noise gates in Fractal devices. They are quick, precise, works in 4cm and You have 4 settings in one presets...hard to beat. And in case of FX8, You have absolutely zero signal alternation.
Playability goes to R9, perfect neck profile, action, weight and sustain. Heritage 80 has similar profile but bigger frets, sound more vintage, fuller lows and doesn't resonate as much but has really unique voicing. Classic has very thin neck profile, medium jumbo frets and plays effortlessly...
Hi guys,
I have opportunity to buy nice Gibson R9 Reissue '23. Before I make my mind I compare it to my current LPs, Gibson LP 1980 Heritage80 and 1996 Custom shop Classic All mahagony.
H80 is heavy 10,0 lbs with Throbaks MC102-B (A4, 9,4 kohm bridge )
R9 is very lightweight 8,0 lbs with...
Customs are very different feeling and sounding guitars than R9. Thinner, more D schaped neck, more glossy finish, usually heavier, Nashville bridge with bushing, 9-hole relief. Different enough to own both ?
There are prehistoric/90s Reissues era, a lot of killer tops. 04-12 era and the latest...
Exactly. Really don't understand the apeal excluded size factor. The 'plastic' thing is real, it has no depth compared to big 5150/6505, crunch sounds are mediocre at best and the feel is very stiff. After all these glowing review I ran to the shop as soon as they was stock and it was quite a...
I had MKII, amazing amp, massive iron for 50W amp, flawless loop. When boosted, it is a beast.
Here is some Slayer. boosted MKII and old Soldano V30 cab.
Dynamic and clarity are maybe the last words to describe Aldrich pickup. With its 17,5ohm it is nowhere in PAF-like clarity and definition. It is very compressed and it is good for slamming inpput of the amp. I tried it in at least 7-8 guitars, mostly LPs and it has 'EMG sydrome' in it. Help...
I have '82 SD-1 and they sound nothing like newer ones, even Waza version. Never understand the hype and they always sounded thin and harsh. I prefered green screamers but this particular one returned to me after 15 years and now I have to change my mind :) But ymmv.
MCII for low volume playing isn't very good. The loop has some bleeding with master low and push pull pots feels very loose. This was letdown for me after all those 'flawless' reviews.
And EQ in loop ... always sounds somewhat fake but ymmv
I always laugh when guys change pots (without measuring resistance) for something fancy and make those 'world difference' statements ? Usually tapers are only difference and behaviour treble depend on modern or 50s wiring. Even hated Gibson PCB wiring is good enough.
Best thing for less mud on...
My vote goes for SL. Friedman is good, tighter with less bounce but so harmonically rich. Clean channel is fantastic on all goldfingers, on the smallbox...well there is clean channel ??
Agree. It is always about compromise between tightness and chewiness. The best amps has almost ideal balance between these two factors. IIC+, Naylor, Bogner, SLO, boosted Marshall...
Amps sims...well, it is whole different how they feel under fingers, and every tube amp feels miles better but ymmv.
Thorn's video is very good for saving money at NOS tubes...but yeah, keep hype train rollin'
So revered Wizard amps sound like shot with JJ's ? Asking for a friend ?
Bogner is oblivous choice for fat and warm tone. Golfinger is even better for that kind of sound. The crunch channel on EVH is synonyme of stiff and lifeless tone, there is no tube in the world that can change that :) Yes, I am little biased against EVH 50W, I bought it 3 times to sure that I am...
This !
Had both but prefer rearloaded because is still tight enough for metal and better suited for more rock oriented styles. FL cabs has always little bit more sizzle and they are more 'clinical/stiff' sounding.
16ohm in newer vs 8 ohm in older cabs make big difference too.
