I went through a Similar issue. I use an 81 in my Les Paul that was lacking bottom end, then i added the 24v Mod & that helped a little bit. I Swapped the 81 for an 85 & that was much better. Passive pickup wise i've only tried the MCP Afwayu or Nuke. Also check out the Alnico Warpig.
