Well I’m down to that or a Marshall 1936 for the same price. It’s not about the brand name per se, but I can’t AB them so I have to wing it a bit. The Marshall is horizontal but it has creambacks which I’ve wanted to try. That said, the Z is vertical which I like and I could just swap in a...
I’ve been after a vertical 212 cab, and there’s a Z Best cab for sale at a decent price. It’s ported which I like the idea of. Anyone know much about these guys for rock or metal?
Just got a SigX head after watching John Browne absolutely demolish it with one. Oddly mine sounds NOTHING like his, though it’s early days. Those that have one, can you share your metal settings, something that gets close to that UL territory?
It's a 2012, so not one of the old old ones.
I don't so much need a pristine clean channel, though I've been really impressed with what the Sig has to offer. Do I think it's light years better than channel 1 on the VH4? I'm not sure.
I've heard that there's not a major difference in the amps...
i've got a buddy who will sell me his UL and i'm well aware of the hype around this amp . . . just having a hard time figuring out if i'm going to have to buy that amp plus a new cab . . . and if so, what then do i do with the Sig.
clearly solving all the world's most important problems today
I have been a hardcore Diezel VH4 player for some time now. I recently acquired a SigX but still feel the pull of the iconic UL. I have a V30 rear-loaded 412 that I play through. Early impressions are that the SigX is great, does a lot of different things, but I'm not sure I still don't prefer...
This is great info…I’m embarrassed to say I’ve honestly never thought that deep into changing components, etc, though I’ve noticed with all the shortages people moan a lot about how newer amps aren’t as good - see most of the Friedman forums on the newer BEs. Guess I need to nerd out more before...
well, sadly we don't live in the same state anymore. but he's a badass guy and is willing to let me come over and rip on it as much as i like. sadly i'm subject to the "i want it now!" phenomenon and whenever one comes up for sale (which is not TOO often for either amp) i feel like i have to...
funny that you say all that because it made me realize something about myself . . . i always steer clear of 1 channel amps because i don't like having to get up and twist knobs. but i invariably get amps that have way more than i need. i don't do pristine clean, but i like something that can go...
i had the same feeling. Sigs are starting to come down in price for sure. I think the fact that noone is wanting to sell their UL drives that market. I'd be buying it from a buddy and it's about as close to new as you'll ever get, and that is worth something to me over someone who has no clue...
no i'm glad you told me. i play mostly hard rock and "old" metal, Mastodon and Gojira type stuff. i think the appeal of the Sig is that it appears to have a lot of options to dialing in tone. with that said, I had a BE100DLX and HATED all the switches and buttons. none of them got me where i...
What kind of stuff do you play? I had a CL100 at one point early in my journey. I liked it, but I did all the usual complaining that everyone does over Fryette's signature tone. Then I heard someone playing Van Halen through a UL and I was floored.
What pushes you to the UL over the Sig?
I’ve been considering a SigX vs. UL for some time now. Itll live in the basement whatever it is. The SigX looks cool for versatility but will I always wonder about the UL? I play mostly rock and metal - but nothing crazy downtuned or djenty. Help me decide!
