what do you think is the best all-around amp head?

Glad to see the MAKO Mak 4 made it onto the list- something I'm considering for recording- actually in the same League for tones as these others? That says a lot .

    Mako Mak4 Preamp.....

On the 2 channel Rack - you can pick any 2 channels- are they "expanded " versions of the Channels from the MAKO 4 or very similar ? For sheer versatility- the MAKO 4 would still be the one, correct ? Have any of you guys tried the MAKO 4 as a recording Preamp directly into EFX and cab IRs ?

    Kasha Rockmod III

I don't know John but did talk to him a while back on the phone 'cause I had read about his earlier stuff. I was asking about a Pre that would also have a Power Tube for low power monitoring and or/ running into a Pa or larger Amp or DAW etc.- he came out with the Brick instead- a mini head...

Axe-fx user wants to really "get" the CA, where to start?

I kick myself for selling my Koa Mockingbird Supreme also ! Neil Moser did it H-S-H for me with passive wiring and mini toggles for 40 plus pickup combinations-warm and excellent instrument. Ordered thru Rolls Music in Falls Church Virginia, but I was and am in Florida.

Triptik 3 Channel Rack Preamp ?

Posted this on another thread but thought I'd ask in a new thread. Since the Triptik has 3 Channels, is super versatile and has an unusually low noise floor- wouldn't it make a great Rack Preamp for recording into Cab IRs and for people who use a Cab Sim Live into a PA etc ? If Triptik...

    Rack Preamp?

I was going to ask Carol Ann and a few Triptik owners to see how the Preamp Out( EFX loop send ) sounds into EFX and Cab IRs- if it sounds great- Then the Preamp Section of the Triptik as a Rack Preamp would be a versatile Recording OR Live Preamp- with less Engineering on Carol Ann's...

Best Amp for a Friedman mod?

I think I heard a few clips of a Friedman modded JCA -cheaper than a Marshall.

    Mako Mak4 Preamp.....

Thanks for the responses re the warmer, low and medium gain Tones- looks beautifully made and sounds like it has a good signal to noise Ratio also- could be great for Studio and maybe even into Cab IRs for super versatility when Recording. I saw where Fast Red Pony Car requested smoother...

    Mako Mak4 Preamp.....

Srommes and Sleewell - yeah was wondering when this Thread was coming to present BUT as long as you're here- is this pre voiced mostly for Metal and Harder stuff or will it do warm, sweet tones , clean to medium gain but warm ( vaguely Gilmour, EJ, Timmons ) smoother tones or would it need to...

Very cool - with a special low wattage small magnet closed back speaker -that would be much better- but it sounds good for super low volume. Is the 50 watt this good at super low levels ? Oh yeah- these and the 50 watt are sounding surprisingly versatile to me- with the right Preamp Tube in...

    Stop picking noise

As Stephen Sawall says above :but adding to it; The Tortex picks for example, are low on pick noise due to the material - and using .88 and 1.0 or larger since the rounded edge" wraps around the string" if you use the correct angle , and subtle circle picking, lessens noise even more. As...

my friend scored the carol ann ds 100

Maybe you can offer one to Bonamassa - as the Brad King Signature Amp. Actually though if it's the best sounding he's made so far- must be scary good. I've been really impressed with the Triptik Clips I've heard as well, guessing they can have even more of that singing gain at lower volumes...

6V6's and 18 watts. Take a look see.

But as I pointed out on another Forum- it does sound a lot like the crunchy chords in "Turn Me Loose" which I think is cool. I'm sure it does a lot more but the Chords have a lot of clarity for that much gain - a good sign. And shows that 6V6s can sound BIG . I'd like to hear it sing on some...

6V6's and 18 watts. Take a look see.

Sounds like it has a lot of useable gain and could also do the "prettier " medium gain EJ/Gilmour Stuff ? Also, can it do some (not exact ) Plexi type tones ? Sounds like it might .

New WOS user - Is there a complete CAB list?

DJD- how different in Recording actual use is a good Guitar Tube Pre versus a Head in the final result for singing gain tones? I'm trying to assess whether we need Power Tubes in the signal chain or not- not enough clips yet to know. Also no clips of someone playing while someone dials through...

    Got the LIVE today

Hey Shark- I'm wondering if the Line Input using a good Guitar Tube preamp sounds almost as good as using a Head into the Power Amp in on the Live. In other words ,Can we get a great sound without Power Tubes in the signal chain ?

    Dream amp wanted

Version 8.0 has all that, except EJ and Landau didn't tweak the 7 string and Scorpions presets, and I heard they either couldn't find the "italo" guy or were scared to talk to him............Dumble switch bypasses the Crystal Lattice, making Tubes work even harder.

New preamp, guess what it is... Gaywhore content revealed :D

Yeah- I never would have guessed that in a million years 'cause I never heard of it. So - with a name like " Gaywhore " it HAS to sound great right ?
