I use 5 way superswitches and do the following to all my HH guitars:
Neck
Neck Outer Split (closest coil to neck)
Neck + Bridge
Neck + Bridge Inner Coils
Bridge
Then add a push/pull to allow the bridge pickup to go from series to parallel. Gives me a lot of tonal variation.
That's a pretty slick looking pedal. EP booster-style pedals are cool, and those extra switches should add a solid bit of versatility. Awesome stuff!
James did, but they have a handful of master builders who do top notch work. Rich Renken took over a few years ago. He's been with the company since the 80s or something and appears to be maintaining it just as James would have. Haven't played any of the newer ones, but I would expect them to...
Sad stuff. May not have liked his designs, but the playability of Tylers is nearly unrivaled with how they break in their necks from the factory. I'm glad there are people still there to keep the brand going, but it's sad seeing such a famous builder who helped shape 80s session guitar tones...
They're all good IMO. Pick whichever one you get the best deal on. If I had to choose one, it's a toss up between the 6L6 and EL34 stealth for me. But again, they're all great.
Have him listen to this and decide if the stealth series are worth it:
My favorite 1x12 is the Suhr. Tuned ports, so it sounds larger than most 1x12s. You can look into the PT version which has the H75 Creamback. Cool sounding speaker and works well with the amp you're mentioning. I doubt you'd be running the Marshall loud enough and long enough to blow the...
I've blown screen grid resistors doing stupid stuff like spraying it directly in jacks and powering it up right after. That was an expensive mistake. It's why I now give it time to properly dry.
Get a guitar cable and some sort of bucket. While holding the guitar cable over the bucket, spray the 1/4'' plug with Deoxit. Rapidly insert/remove into any jacks that need cleaning. Let it dry thoroughly before attempting to use the amp. Note that this method becomes less effective as jacks...
Original Suhr Reactive Load came out in like, what, end of 2014, beginning of 2015? I would agree it kinda set the standard for what people follow in terms of "first to market". I honestly can't think of a single reactive load box that was available before John made his, but feel free to chime...
Thick, yet pretty clear and articulate still.
They are Ceramic, right? Yeah
Oversized Ceramic or regular-sized? No clue
How hot are they? Fairly hot. JB/Custom/Distortion-ish output. Around there.
Are they comparable to the Duncan Distortion in terms of output? Yeah, rough.
Gibson 500T? Feels...
