I had a VHT fatbottom 2x12. Love the design and portability of it. The P50 speakers not too much. It was tight. Paired with my Carvin Legacy head was cool. Tightened up that amp. If ya are leaning towards a front loaded cab, maybe check a Deizel FL cab. They either have V30s or K100 speakers...
I had a pair in my EVH 212 combo. Took them out after I bought a pair of greenbacks from Avatar Speakers. My first Gen Combo had greenbacks. New EVH combos have the Anniversaries. They were okay. More bass and sizzle. But not Eddie tones.
Interesting thing was my first gen combo had Chinese...
Not saying it’s better. Just different. Less mud, more presence. I’m not trying to sell ya on one, as I said, I like em for my KRK
V8 monitors more than for my amps. I’d argue though that it’s not a placebo. My buddy bought one after trying mine on his rig for a day. I should make a clip of my...
Never tried one? They are killer in my studio monitors. I actually bought them initially for my amps, as they make everything more clear, tighter/brighter, but ended up using them for my Studio Monitors.
I saw this video yesterday and in all fairness, I didn't grab my headphones. Just listened through my iphone. Agree with most above statements. They can sound really close. I'd still choose the BE for versatility and channel switching. You could probably just throw a Mercury Magnetics power...
My buddy has a 8ohm single cab with a creamback Alnico. It sounds like this. He had his EVH 50w 6L6 hooked up to it. Mind you, I have the EVH 50w Combo with Greenbacks...It was so different. His was way tighter and brighter. Wasn't bad at all, just very present.
A lot of people think Bob Rock got his tones on 87 and BM albums. Story is Sykes called in Bob to get his guitar tones on BM cuz he wasn't working on the project yet, but JS wanted his 87 tones to tape. True, but you can clearly hear he had those tones live.
Yup...I actually ran my QR with only 2 in the middle slots(Scott said that was fine). They were spendy...I think I paid $150 for the pair at the time. It was still plenty loud.
Also, unlike today were you can have Ox Boxes and these great load boxes with IRs, back then I played my splawns also in and Apartment besides rehearsal space. I had tricks. would run a Rocktron Xpression or Lexicon Rack unit through the loop and tame it, or I also had a Weber Mass 100...
Agreed. I wasn't a fan of the smallblocks at all in my Splawn 4x12. I swapped them for all governors. Governors with the older Splawns sounded damn good to my ear. Private Jacks too. I had 2 QR(2006) that I put old brown base Tesla EL34s in her and the band I was in we opened for Lynch Mob...
Yeah...I never used 3rd Gear. 1st or 2nd for me with a boost. 3rd on some years was over the top, not so much gain but just lets so much bass/resonance through. That might be okay with some cabs/speakers, but I had a Splawn 4x12 with governors and eminence speakers have a bit more low end to...
