Yup, I'm thinking its the speakers as well. Take the 2 v30's and 2 greenbacks out of the Helios cab and try 'em in the Marshall cabs, and you'll know for sure.

Yeah, less compressed and a bit brighter overall. I should also mention that running the channel vols at noon or higher makes a difference as well. Try setting channel 3 volume @ 1 o'clock, get your desired output level going with the Master volume, and then go back and balance the other...

Dave Friedman has talked about Variac's and Eddies amp a couple times on Tonetalk. I could have sworn he said the plate voltage was around 350V when the variac was set to 90V. In any case, if ya want Variac tone, use a variac. :thumbsup:

TBH, if the SL68 is any indication, I'd just stick with your Variac set-up. The Voltage selector on the SL68 should have been labeled "Tight" and "Mush"
