Bought a Mayones Duvell... DHL Delivered a Nightmare

I was looking at those for this guitar. But I've got a few others to try out first. Lundgren M6, Black Heaven, and BKP Juggernaut and ceramic Nailbomb.

Bought a Mayones Duvell... DHL Delivered a Nightmare

Sounds crushing! :) What pickups were in that one? The tariffs aren't the issue. I know how much they are. The issue is DHL dropping the ball every step of the way, getting my address wrong, my social wrong, my email wrong, the shipment details wrong, trying to bill me tariffs on TWO guitars...

Bought a Mayones Duvell... DHL Delivered a Nightmare

The Duties and Tax lady was like... "Yeah this doesn't look right at all..." No shit haha. She seemed equally as dumbfounded that they duplicated the shipment contents and doubled the customs value + added $500 in storage fees because of their own fuckups.

Bought a Mayones Duvell... DHL Delivered a Nightmare

11/13 I get a call from Imports Department Supervisor. He apologizes for everything and tells me they have spoken to broker who made mistakes and will be re-training them. He says the guitar has now cleared customs. He tells me I will need to pay $869. I say that sounds very high considering I...

Bought a Mayones Duvell... DHL Delivered a Nightmare

10/30 I call DHL to ask about the hold. They say they have all the necessary paperwork (invoice, Lacey Act form, etc.), nothing else is needed from me, and that their broker team is processing guitar for a formal entry with US Customs. 10/31 DHL sends me an email confirming no additional...

Bought a Mayones Duvell... DHL Delivered a Nightmare

tl;dr DHL blows I bought a Mayones Duvell BL-6 (Black Limba) from Peach Guitars in the U.K. I tried finding one in the U.S. but there aren't any. As far as I could tell, Peach had the only one for sale in the world. I bought an acoustic from them years ago and didn't have any issues, so I bit...

Finding a shipping box for a amp is a pain

I've shipped about 10 vintage Marshalls in the last few months. None of them were damaged in shipping. FedEx boxed them for me. Do whatever you're comfortable with, but that's my advice. BTW, I don't use FedEx to ship. Just have them pack stuff for me. Then use Pirate Ship for UPS label. In the...

Finding a shipping box for a amp is a pain

FedEx also has expanding foam that molds around your item. They'll box your stuff up for you and use the foam.

Finding a shipping box for a amp is a pain

Go to FedEx. They have boxes. If they don't have one exactly the right size, they will cut one for you. Or... better yet... they will box it up for you for under $50. Worth it considering you don't have to drive around and buy tape and bubble wrap and all that. Hell... if you're selling the...

    Caswell #39 plug in mod

I have supposed schematics for #34, #36, and #39. That one above is in the same ballpark as each of them, but doesn't match any of them verbatim. Close enough for rock and roll though.

    Caswell #39 plug in mod

Yes, it is more than that. It's like modifying a car. You can just bolt on a new part and call it good. But that' doesn't yield the best results. If you supercharge a car, you need to address how exhaust exits the engine. You need to address how air enters the super charger and gets cooled...

    Marshall 2203: JMP VS JCM800

Marshall is notorious for inconsistency. If someone assembling an amp ran out of a 500pF for the tone stack treble cap, instead of getting up off their ass to find the right one, they'd just use the next closest value, like 680pF or 470pF. If they ran out of 10K dropping resistors, they'd just...

    Caswell #39 plug in mod

What I'm saying is the actual #39 mod can't possibly fit inside this box. The mod entails changes to many parts of the circuit that you don't find in a stock Marshall. I hope it sounds good though. Seems like a cool idea, especially adding the switches and gain control not found on previous...

    Caswell #39 plug in mod

I wonder how this compares to actually modding an amp for an extra tube stage. On paper, it should be the same thing—you're inserting another tube stage between existing ones. Instead of an additional gain pot on the front and a wire going to the grid of the next stage, you're just doing it in a...

    Nevermind, stock 2204 it is!

If the tech knows what he's doing you won't have any problems. But it's hard to find good people out there.

    Marshall 2203: JMP VS JCM800

Power supply. That's the key. The schematics are all mostly the same. But what isn't shown on the schematics is voltage. If you want a tight, aggressive, angry sound out of these, get the PI B+ node cooking and properly ground the preamp filter. The B+ in these amps is all over the place, with...

    Nevermind, stock 2204 it is!

Any decent tech can do a JEL mod. Just bring your amp to someone local with the schematic. I can do it, but I'm in California.
