Agreed, I was impressed when I played one at my local guitar-shop-that-actually-gives-a-rats-hat-about-making-sure-the-instruments-are-playable-off-the-wall.
Haven't seen this discussed yet, and figured it was worth bringing up:
After watching I was able to dial in my EV Force 12's mic'd with a PZM wedge to sound similar to his V30 w/57 clip, so the main thing I took away from the video is how similar very different speakers and mics can sound with...
I posted this clip already in the main forum in a NAD thread, but it got buried and I figured that here would be a better place to solicit opinions.
The clip:
The recording setup:
- PZM wedge right on the cab baffle.
- Mitchell donut beam blockers
- EQ bus to flatten PZMs' HF-rise.
- Detuned...
After watching the recent Michael Nielson video on 12L's, and hearing his remarks on the differences between it and the V30, I spent some time futzing with EQ. Ended getting a tone I really like with some unconventional EQ choices, relative to Celestion cabs. Treble at 10, Mids at 4, Bass at 5...
Just watched this video from Henning Pauly describing his take on it after using some of the new AI music generator stuff coming down the pipe:
Trippy what it can do now.
But, for people making music as a means of self-expression, I don't see it as much of a threat. If I want to say something...
@Simon Dorn eww, you got AI all over it.
I don't know of any that can, especially time-based stuff. You're basically asking for the pedal to have a built-in power amp at least, possibly also a load. I've seen speaker-level crossover stuff and EQ's, but only for PA's.
As far as I can tell, no...
Got any sources? Not that I'm trying to challenge it, I just want to go read up on it myself. In my minimal spare time I'm working on rhythm skills too, and trying to figure out how tight I should be aiming for. Right now the target is < 5 ms , but I'm still uncertain if that's realistic or not.
Yeah sure thing, I appreciate your meticulous engineering approach to getting to the bottom of things, it's refreshing. Good luck on future tests!
Also you asked about acoustics in the video. I'm no expert, but I picked up these two books which seem to be highly recommended as foundational to...
Cool stuff.
@the other John Browne since you found some phase differences between the files, something to try in the future would be to see if you get phase differences between two takes from the same set of tubes.
