I thought so as well, although the AT-1 in one of my Les Pauls behaves a bit like a more powerful PAF and not as screamy as a JB sometimes can be.
@Kapo_Polenton if you don't mind even more power, harmonics and such, you could try the Norton. But I'm with you on the PAF Pro; way too nasal for...
R.I.P. Ace!
He came to be an influence on me as well -guitar-wise-, even after I had my teenage influences by Slash, Jimi, Angus and Eric (heck, even Kerry, Jeff and Jaymz)... and if it wasn't for a beard that I'm not willing to part ways with just for gigs, I'd be in a bonafide Kiss tribute...
To be clear, I wasn't planning on upgrading to an OFR on any of my Floyd equipped guitars to begin with.
The cost isn't worth it to me, especially if the Gotoh 1996T at 1/3rd of the price does the same thing. And since I never play any Night Ranger, all that flutter mumbo jumbo passes me right...
Sorry for the necro-bump, but I just got a guitar (no brand on the headstock, kinda looks like a cross between a Hamer Californian and an ESP Horizon), since I wanted an H-S one with amber/orange flame maple top... soooo it has a FR Special and I wonder, since the routing around the trem is...
I've been a fan for over 20 years. The Savage 60 (MKI)) was my 1st tube amp. Sold it to fund the purchase of a new Invader 100, but 10 years later I got a used Savage 60 again; I use the Ironball for rehearsals at locations where I don't know what dodgy (H&K Warp factor anyone?) heads they have...
Same here. Owned the Artist and the MOSFET at the same time. Sold the Artist.
My biggest gripe with it, was that it didn't have the Pull EQ function on the gain knob that the Mosfet does have. That makes the amp a lot more useable, since you have the 3-band EQ added to the controls and the...
Schweet! That sounds like how I usually EQ-d kickdrums. ;-)
Couldn't stand that hollow basketball-in-a-gym tone from an AKG D112 mic. Much preferred the Audio Technica ATM25.
I've just checked the EQ graph on the Dimarzio website; it's very similar to the AT-1, but just with a bit more of everthing, especially output (435mV vs. 320mV).
You don't find it too bassy or loose in the low-end? I'd be a bit hesitant with a Bass graph of '10/10' when the guitar isn't overly...
Yeah, I had the Breed bridge for a while too; it was too polite and smooth indeed. Missed 'hair on its teeth'. This is what the Norton delivers.
Even the Andy Timmons signature AT-1 does it pretty well, albeit slightly thicker and warmer than the Norton, but definitely not vanilla/bland.
Nice axe! And I agree, the PAF Pro is very meh indeed. There's a bunch of Dimarzio's that I do like; the Norton (bridge) would probably be awesome for bringing the 80's hair sizzle tone, without any thin or nasal qualities. It doesn't suffer from that cocked wah tone, that a bunch of Dimarzio's...
For shits n' giggles, you should look up old and recent pictures of Helloween's Kai Hansen.
Hair coloring is one thing; a hairline getting significantly closer to your eyebrows is next level.
Oh, and Gus G was rippin' !
Nah, it doesn't look like black mold. Besides, there are none of those brown/murky, wavey water-damage spots on the wood.
Most likely the back of the grille plate has been used as an underlayment for spray painting something else black on top of it.
A bit late to the game, but since I got my...
Interesting that you mention both Stained Class (one of my absolute fave Priest albums) and Glenn improving.
My feeling is that he (and maybe KK too, although I always felt KK was the lesser lead player...more brawling, noodling, instead of thought-out, well-phrased leads) improved a few times...
Agreed. PoM has overall a higher number of quality songs throughout than Powerslave.
But...production wise, style-wise, finesse-wise (of where the band was in their 'arc'), I'd recon Powerslave was them at their peak.
And yes, I prefer Clive Burr to Nicko, just like I will die defending Les...
That's what I heard as well (on good headphones). 2nd clip reminded me more of AJFA aggression, while the 1st clip sounded a tad bigger/fuller and nicer to my ears.
