Have You Guys Seen This?....Think I May Dig This Tone

Those dudes haven’t used the same tone from one song to the next for the last decade, that’s a huge part of the reason I love ‘em so much. Live you get the stripped down versions and they’ve gotten so much cleaner over the years where you can actually hear what the guitars are doing. Think I’m...

If you had to play in front of 20k people right now...

Favorite band is AIC and I only know how to play maybe, 5 of their songs? So yeah, I’d fuckin’ bomb the shit out of that. Give me a week and it’s a different story. The audience part I’m not concerned about, I was over stage fright 20 years ago, especially a sea of people like 20k, I’d be more...

Sansamp GT-2 sent my Boss ir-2 packing

I always dug that pedal. That was my first ‘keep one in a gig bag just in case’ pedal. The store I worked at in high school got one in when we took on whatever brand Tech 21 was being sold under (Kayman?) and I remember not thinking much about it until I plugged it in. They’re making them again...

    King Diamond - Andy LaRocque

He’s probably #1 on my list of underrated guys. I had an awareness of KD before this, but barely any, so when my bass player brought me to a show about 20 years ago my jaw was on the floor all night watching Andy. I figured he was some hired gun or something because it was inconceivable to me...

    Any tone talk watchers?

I’m never going to bitch about healthy and abundant gear discussion, I would have killed for shit like ToneTalk when I was in high school and now it serves as background noise when I’m in the studio. I’m a gear nerd, those 4 hour shows allow for trivia or stories that a condensed 1-hour episode...

Alice in Chains - Down in a hole

They played it the 2nd time I saw them with Will singing, Tsongas arena in Mass. Hearing that guitar tone roll that fucking riff out across an arena was a top 3 live show highlight of my life.

Alice in Chains - Down in a hole

When I was in 8th grade I wrote a whole parody version of it, called “Stuck In Her Hole” Bury me softly in her hole I stick this part of me in you Sperm rains down upon your chin Dripping down your titties, too Can’t remember the rest, I probably have it in a box somewhere.

Wow, used gear sales have come to a screeching halt....

Kinda weird, I had a Classic 50’s Strat listed for $250 and a fairly minty DRRI listed for $750 on the Marketplace, they sat for a month with just tire kickers. I re-listed each of them on Tuesday and sold them both in the last two days. If ya’ll think inflation and pricing around the rest of...

    The secret to "easy" tone

Well, I’ve been told repeatedly that modelers do the work for me, so there’s always that. Personally, these are more important than anything else-

Do you accept kidneys? I hope so because I don’t think it’s gonna last much longer in this tupperware dish w/ ice so I gotta get it moving. Lemme know.

    AC contractors pls chime in

I’m curious to hear if this works out. Every supplier I use requires a CAC# to even sign up to their website, never mind actually ordering anything. FWIW, if you know a contractor they’ll generally allow you to use their GC license and/or CAC# for shit like this.

    AC contractors pls chime in

It’s within reason. At least once a day I’m approving an AC replacement, while the tonnage is at play, the labor is generally where you’ll see the biggest differences in costs. I just signed off on a 5-ton at $11K this week, but signed off on a 3.5-ton at $13k last week, the difference is in...

Why does new music have to be so different?

Music scenes still exist, it’s just that much more of a pain in the ass to get an original band together to start, never mind getting everyone on the same page. I have no clue what aspect of playing music these people get their enjoyment from, I know more musicians who hate playing onstage than...

Why does new music have to be so different?

Hahahah my first recording device was a 1/4” reel to reel that had a built in mic, I’d just sit there for hours recording garbage and flipping the tape around so I could hear it backwards.

Why does new music have to be so different?

Probably half of what I do in a DAW now comes from those early Tascam/Fostex days, overdubs, learning how different guitar tones mix together and most important (for me anyway), full takes from start to finish. That said, I’m not sure how much faster/better off I’d be if I started out now...

Why does new music have to be so different?

Not my thing but those two in the vid look like they could be 18-20 years old and all I can think when I see stuff like this is “When I was that age I had a Fostex 4-track and Napster was just starting”, while these people are writing full tunes, living in entirely different zip codes and ending...

    Shred guys, your .02 please

When you start getting comfortable at a certain BPM, push it up like 20-30BPM, into a range where you KNOW you’re going to fuck it all up and give it a shot a few times. There’s physical differences in what your muscles are doing at a controlled, practiced tempo and what they’re doing at a...
