Hello gentlemen, nice to be back in this thread again. Update from my side is I have since learned to love EL34s in my VH4. I hereby revoke my comment from 2010 regarding them. I’ll check in again in another 13 years. :giggle:
For distortion my favorite is some flavor of Lovepedal Purple Plexi. Either a Purple Plexi or something that has it built in, like the Vintage Modern. Barber makes great drive pedals as well.

You can get 11 9V outlets from the 1spot CS12 by using the Truetone V189 cable, which drops the 18V to 9V. Then there’s enough current with the 500mA and 250mA outlets to split your way up to powering many many pedals. Bonus on the CS12 is it includes mounting hardware specifically for...
Terrible demo. Seems obvious to play some riffs from the Demanufacture album to demo it, or at least something similar to that genre. Hopefully it sounds better in person. I have an Axis Excalibur preamp and it sounds far closer to the Demanufacture tone, especially when run through...
I’d keep the 70s Hiwatt with pedals.
How do the Reeves amps compare, as far as a new production Hiwatt inspired amp goes? The Space Cowboy looks like a really nice pedal platform. Anyone have any experience with it or another Reeves?
I would absolutely go for a PEQ pedal. 3 parametric bands with adjustable frequency/gain/Q and an adjustable highpass and lowpass filter and a master gain control would be perfect. Some ability to switch each band on/off individually would be nice during tuning, such as with a small toggle...
Lacking a bias control kept me away from this amp when GAS set in. From reading comments, it seemed people either loved the amp or hated it. The fixed bias seemed to be a factor. It might be a crapshoot regarding what tone you get depending on the tubes used. I wouldn’t want to go tube rolling...
I bet it sounds fantastic. But since it’s a Herbert pedal I wish they’d demo it with a guitar more targeted at heavy music, and some riffs from that genre. I’m sure it’s flexible and shines at many things, but that’s what I would try first when buying a Herbert pedal.
Anyone get a chance to play or hear this pedal? I’ve been looking for a good pedal for metal and haven’t been happy with what I’ve tried. Maybe this is the one!
I had the same problem with my VH4. It’s been a while, but IIRC I was using a true bypass pedal, a Carbon Copy. Putting a buffer in the loop as the first pedal in the loop fixed it. I used the Radial PB1, which also lets you dial in some footswitchable boost. Don’t recall if the boost itself was...
Love the Katana. I practice using it more often than my tube amps now to save the life of my tubes. It’s a huge cost saver from that point of view, and still sounds awesome.
There is a big trick for the Katana to be aware of. Make sure to run the Master volume very high. I run mine around 3:00...
I went on a major pedal binge over the past 6 months or so. The Lovepedal Purple Plexi and Lovepedal Jubilee came out on top. The MI Audio Super Crunch Box v2 is excellent as well, and is extremely versatile. At home I’ve been playing through these pedals more often than using my amp gain...
That’s odd. Try a different IR plugin such as Nadir to see if it has the same issue. And try another IR if it also has a problem.
It could be that the IR is not in the minimum phase form, meaning that the peak is not at the first sample, but rather is in the middle of the IR file. Reaper may be...
