    2023 music year in review!!

I don't have a way of tracking, but I'm sure the most listened doesn't change that much for me, tons of metal old and not quite as old. Children of Bodom, Symphony X, Nevermore, Municipal Waste, Metallica, Ratt, Pantera, Ensiferum, Testament, Dokken, Wintersun, Nile...the list goes forever...

I see a lot of new faces here

PLX is again nailing the "spirit" of old times here...a lot of this is very old history. A bit hard to explain quickly...like any forum, there's been its share of "personalities" and drama at times. Some has been humorous, some has been nuclear, some a mix of both. Others (particularly the...

I see a lot of new faces here

PLX has accurately addressed the "many men", there is much manly love here on RT. You join for the gear, you stay for the bromance. Steve Henning is not Steve K (the latter who yes, did sadly pass away), he was sah5150 here and has been gone for some time. He started up Henning Amplification.

This kid continues to blow me away..

Yep, Tosin came to mind for me as well. I guess after literally decades of hearing every shred technique imaginable, this stuff always sounds so stale to me.

This kid continues to blow me away..

Gotcha...I think I'm too old for this.

I see a lot of new faces here

I'm not sure which guy you're talking about, but since I'm in the "11 year" bucket (though I was lurking here years before that), and I was never a high count poster, I'll reintroduce (and really it was years ago that I was more active). I followed rupe over here from a Charvel forum about 11...

This kid continues to blow me away..

I haven't been around in a long while...has this guy been like a "thing" here? For reals? Not knocking his technique, but like a million people have done this before.

    John5 first show with Crue..

Yeah, not the same without Mick, he's the only reason I had stayed interested in their live stuff in more recent times. Vince is what he is...replacing him doesn't make sense because his voice is so identifiable warts and all at this point, but Mick brought that thick tone and was always the...

I see a lot of new faces here

Holy cow, I've been away for a long time and I hardly recognize most names here anymore...is this all newer folks or did Reza rejoin with 50 new aliases?? JK, glad to see this board is still very active!!

This kid continues to blow me away..

I like the 10 year old version best...seemed like he was having fun and it was music I would actually listen to.

Post your first guitar of 2023!

These showed up recently to kick off 2023 for me:

    Vince Neil Exposed

Absolutely love this album, just had this in the rotation again recently as I've been on a Steve Stevens kick. Also agree on the early 90's actually generating some great hair metal. This one is particularly impressive to me because the genre was still kicking out a number of albums through 1992...

    Customs wait time

So I ordered an Edwards from Japan late Saturday night (I'm in the US, Ohio specifically), and Sunday morning they promptly sent me a note saying they were getting it ready for shipping. I look out on my porch a few minutes ago and there's this giant box sitting there. Yep, Fedex just dropped it...

Great band from Finland... TURN IT UP!

From the title of the thread I was totally expecting some melodic death metal. But this works too, and yeah, digging that Charvel!

    Double Pointy NGD! ESP/Jackson

A Kiso NGD is always a special thing, and that Jackson ain't so shabby either!! Killer double score

    Cowboys Vs. Rust

I hear you man! Someone else suggested I should have added Seasons in the Abyss as well since I was going for a 1990 showdown, wish I had that one in the mix as well. I'm not surprised RIP is winning (nor bothered by that, all amazing metal here), but just interested if I was alone with Pantera...

    Cowboys Vs. Rust

Just a reminder since we are a few pages in why it was specifically CBH versus RIP...they were both released within a few months of each other in 1990 and went on to be major pieces of metal history. So not the usual "best album" by band match-up but more if you took a couple of key albums from...

If you like 80's ... this band still carrying the torch

Yeah, these guys have been around for awhile, I really liked them early on. Most modern hair metal for me gets a little too poppy and more late 80's than early-mid 80's when things kind of rocked harder. New Religion from 2010 was a really legit album I think. My favorite retro take on the...

    Cowboys Vs. Rust

Oh man, you are so right about Seasons. Yeah, that hangs for me up there as well. If I had a redo I would have put them in the vote, good call!

    Cowboys Vs. Rust

I feel like I should say it again though, Rust in Peace is an absolute metal masterpiece. I started learning how to play Holy Wars right after the first time I heard it. Pantera though brought that rawness that reminded me in spirit of older thrash, but taking it in a new direction.
