    Shred guys, your .02 please

No need for tablature or complicated patterns at first. You need to work on the fundamentals. Don't overthink it, just do strict alternate picking and keep practicing with a metronome everyday. Without taking any break. Progress will happen, I'll guarantee it. You just start with a downstroke...

    Shred guys, your .02 please

The biggest challenge is to keep doing it, not walking away, not matter what (unless it's a physical problem like tendonitis etc.). Progress is not linear, it sometimes stagnates for months (even years !) then suddenly everything clicks and in a matter of a week, giant leaps are made. One sure...

    What's the best amp?

I was kinda spoiled from the start. About 35 years ago, I started playing with some horrible Novanex transistor combo (70s plastic dutch thing) for roughly a year. It was alright but I was looking for something better obviously. I saw an ad in a paper magazine and went to see with a guitar...

    Shred guys, your .02 please

You have to play scales using alternate picking, three notes per string. Simple straight scales up and down all over the neck then groups of three notes (aka stairs), four notes, six notes (harder). Then there are some specific exercises for specific player styles... For example, fast two notes...

Bands that got better with age

It's not gain, it's the mixing IMHO. Scott Burns has its ways to make death-metal sound as it should. Here's a quick Scott Burns mixing credit list : Obituary - Slowly We Rot, Cause Of Death, The End Complete Sepultura - Schizophrenia, Beneath The Remains, Arise Napalm Death - Harmony...

So what Clip On Tuners are Y’all Liking?

TC Polytune is sturdy and works great. Only drawback is it's eating batteries like candies.

Bands that got better with age

Richard Christy's drumming doesn't fit quite right in there IMHO. It always sounds like he's rushing it. It's over-complicated without fitting right, unlike Hoglan or Reinert. It doesn't groove. That makes the album sub-par already.

Bands that got better with age

Human was their best far and away. Individual second. Later albums were good but not on the same level. GoJira's The Link is a modern classic, a bit like a french Chaos A.D... Later albums became more and more boring IMHO. CC peaked at The Bleeding. Sorry but they never topped their first...

    Bc rich usa or no?

You're right ! Never saw one before. I thought all the bolt-on Mock from back then were NJ like the one I had. I'm no expert LOL

    Bc rich usa or no?

I wouldn't call myself an expert but I've been interested in B.C. Rich for a long time. Bought a NJ Mock in 91 and then ordered a US neck-thru from the custom shop in 94. Indeed only Warlock/ST/Gunslinger were made in the US as bolt-on from 81 to 89 then onto 93 by Class Axe. Other bolt-on...

    Bc rich usa or no?

There are some bolt-on USA made B.C. Rich. They have "Made In USA" written on the headstock and a serial like "BCXXXXX".

    Ibanez insight

Put the original bridge PU back in and it will go for $3K tomorrow.

    Ibanez insight

Thing is beat to hell, replaced bridge pickup, corroded trem. I'd say $3K.

Thinking about getting my first Rectifier, I’m slightly confused.

Don't overthink it and don't waste your money, unless you have a lot of time and too much money at hand. It's the perfect case of diminishing return. Get an old two-channel Dual rev G and boost it with a Maxon OD808 if necessary (I like it as it is FWIW). All this talk really is about the last...

    The Zenith of 80s shred

    What's your oldest guitar amp?

'72 DR103 ! As good as new ! Thought it was from '74 when I bought it but it seems it's '72 according to the Hiwatt Register website.

    Steve Vai joins King Crimson

"20th Century Schizoid Man" and "The Court Of The Crimson King" are great tunes. Both on the '69 album which is their first and also the best of their entire career IMHO. You can skip the rest without missing much.

Jimi isolated guitar Wait Until Tomorrow

Amazing ! Intricate details and super clean playing while grooving at the same time...

    Gibsons comparo

I like the first guitar better than the other two but I'm pretty sure the difference boils down to the PUs. I'd get the lightest one in any case if comfy to play, it's always possible to change pickups later.

Soldanos users chime in Slo versus JMP

LOL thanks ! It's kinda hard to put sounds into words without getting either overly technical with dB ad kHz or plain weird with crazy metaphors. I chose the second option !
