    RIP Myles Goodwin

As a Canadian this one hit pretty hard as Nature of the Beast was one of the first albums I bought when I got my first turntable as a teenager. So many great hits in their discography. I know Myles didn’t sing on this song, but this was THE song you’d hear blasting out of cars in the late 70’s...

Anyone regularly using the ISP Theta Pro?

It’s an amazing unit. I’ve heard it live twice, one from a Stryper show, the other from an Ethan Brosh show. I use it for home recording but it really sounded great live and a nice portable solution. I prefer playing it through a poweramp and a cab than direct to PA. Sounded better than the Quad...

A/B’d a bunch of delays today

Always loved the DD3. It’s just easy to use and sounds great. The later versions such as DD7 just sound more digital. I’ve got the Japanese version that will always be my main delay. I know a lot of modern players want more features, but it works for what I use it for.

    Oh dear... New Dokken video..

I thought it sounded good? :dunno: Video was terrible, yeah, but total Dokken song there. (Although to be honest after listening again, it was kind of like someone asked an AI to write a Dokken song from Breaking the Chains era and that’s what came out).

What’s a song you never hear people speak of that’s a top favorite to you

For the Bonamassa haters in the other thread :giggle:

    Bonamassa is wierd

Man, lotta haters! I love his stuff with Black Country Communion (they just finished recording a new album). When he’s paired with Glenn Hughes he’s a lot more edgier and hard rocking, and I think having Hughes helps elevate the song writing when they’re together. But yeah his solo stuff just...

    Bridge pickup for Les Paul

Very happy with the Gibson Slashbucker (Custom BB A2) that comes in the Slash guitars. It reads in the high 8k but plays hotter as it’s got some compression to it. You can find them online all the time as people rip them out of their Slash guitars in favour of the Duncan Alnico II Pro. But I...

    About the Marshall JMP-1 preamp

Any power amp recommendations? A local seller is using it with a Mesa 2:50 with EL34. I’ve heard the corresponding Marshall power amps from that period have overheating issues.

    About the Marshall JMP-1 preamp

Considering picking up one of these as I’ve never tried one. Anything I should know in terms of any known quirks or technical issues? Things to watch out for when buying a used one? Does it have a good base JCM 800 sound or is it more DSL-ish? So many big bands have used it in their rigs so...

    New Wizard Model: Hell Razor

Why is it named liked a Randall? 😄 might as well have a pentagram and a goat on it.

Anyone compared a 2203x to an original?

I’ve tried them side by side and the originals definitely have more body and grunt due to those transformers, but to be honest the difference is not all that important to me nowadays than having the FX loop and it’s really getting hard to find an OG that hasn’t been mucked around inside or...

Shrapnel guys that kept growing musically

I still have Cacophony - Speed Metal Symphony on LP somewhere. Sounds terrible, the lyrics are very cringe, but parts of it are amazing, especially Concerto. I don’t know if you consider what they did after that as maturing since the l fundamental style didn’t change but maybe the song writing...

Marshall JVM vs Mesa Boogie Badlander

It’s hard to believe the JVM is like 15 years old now. I loved the switching features on it, but it is very compressed and gets eaten up on stage by a second amp. As a 100 watt home amp for noodling and recording it is excellent. I tried a Badlander briefly in a store, as I was curious about...

What’s best boost pedal to get my 78 JMP

I was meaning that if you want to nail that era sound, you have to use the original. The Waza is good too and it will get close enough, but it’s missing something that I like better in the original, that’s all.

What’s best boost pedal to get my 78 JMP

80’s SD-1 is what everyone else used at the time, so that’s the sound. Definitely spend the time to get an 80’s Japan version. I have one and a new Waza SD-1w and it’s no contest. The original just adds this extra mid-push/smear that gets you the exact period-correct sound the modern one won’t...

    Celestion Redbacks.

This weekend I replaced the stock V Type speakers in my Marshall vertical 2x12 (the SC212) with a Creamback 65 on top and a Redback on the bottom. I was surprised they actually sounded great together. They sound very similar eq wise in the middle, while the 65 has more high mids/treble, and the...

    That '70s Thread: Alice Cooper

Killer is my favourite, strong all the way through and some great unique tracks. But Welcome to My Nightmare is right up there too for the same reason even though not with his band anymore. Bob Ezrin produced all those great early Alice albums.

    New Fortin Meshuggah??

Seems to be made for the European market and sold there. Sounds great but not 6k+ great plus shipping for North America.

    NAD - Marshall 1977 JMP 2203 + clips!

Man that’s amazing, that’s the sound right there. I’m surprised you have your bass and presence that low. I’m usually running my eq at 6-4-4, with presence at 5 or 6, but that’s just low volume really so maybe when you crank it up you have to drop the bass to keep it tight even when boosted.

NAD: Marshall SC20H in the house...

I have the hot mod with my SC20 and I love it. Just gives you that extra bit of gain you need and then boost it. I use the SD-1, Hex drive, and Fortin TS-9, and they all sound great in front of it in different ways. I hate smaller amps in general with EL84 or 6V6s, and I’m so happy Marshall used...
