    SM57 alternative? Beyerdynamic M201!

Not exactly the hottest thread on Rig Talk, but I'll post an update for the few who cares. Finally got the Beyerdynamic M88, thought I was clever and ordered it exactly in time for easter, but the post completely stopped the day before the holidays. So the mic spent the entire easter at the...

Does anyone know the approx KHZ freq for certain knobs on Wizard amps?

Check this out. Hopefully the right values followed the link, it looks like it from here at least. This is for the MCII, if you want the MTL change R1 to 47k (mid scoop off) or 94k (mid scoop on). Also the earlier MCIs had 62k in this spot. RT is treble, RM is middle and RB is bass - move the...

    Replacement for DSL

If I may suggest something a bit unusual - Not sure where you're located, but if you can find a talented amp tech he can build you a Wizard MTL clone based on a Headfirst PCB. I have personally done this with his Wizard MCII PCB, and the result is my favorite amp of all time! I've owned a ton of...

    SM57 alternative? Beyerdynamic M201!

Sorry for posting twice in a row, but this would have gotten lost as an edit in the long previous post... Tried an interesting experiment just now, pairing a darker speaker (Alnico Cream) with a brighter mic (SM57), and then a brighter speaker (Blackback G12M) with a darker mic (M201). The...

    SM57 alternative? Beyerdynamic M201!

That's super interesting, particularly about the 90s 57s! I have read up on stuff like changing the transformer on the 57 etc too, but the transformer costs as much as the friggin' mic and replacing it looks like a royal pain... Will definitely see if I can get hold of a used 90s 57 though...

    SM57 alternative? Beyerdynamic M201!

You pretty much summed it up better than I did! I think my dislike for the 57 has built up over time, when trying to get a tone that isn't all about cutting the 57 hasn't really obliged. So my recordings have always been quite bright whether I liked it or not, and over time I've been leaning...

    SM57 alternative? Beyerdynamic M201!

Never fully understood the SM57's "end all to be all" status when it comes to guitar recording... It emphasizes the right frequencies for guitar, yes, but it doesn't really give an accurate representation of what the rig actually sounds like (to my ears). If you have a rig that doesn't cut well...

Which amp is the right one for me?

Hi guys. My first post in here, but I've been a member of other forums since 2009. Just a quick question before we start: do I have to have x number of posts before I can post in the classifieds? So, to the case: I have been through a shitload of amps, not to mentions guitars, never quite...
