The Rails or standard BW would potentially be going in a swamp ash-bodied (there’s that wood again), single hum, fixed bridge, 22 fret guitar tuned half a step down.
It’s often hard for me to get an accurate grasp from online demos/reviews because everything these days for heavier tones seems...
Glad to hear Rick is on it and you got your amp already!
To echo your statement in the earlier part of your post, wait times and non-responsiveness from builders/companies seem to be at an all-time high.
I have several companies that I’ve had long-standing good relationships with that I...
I’m good friends with Adam and have experience with pretty much the whole line. The Neutron at 18 watts gets plenty loud and is a great rock amp. Playing it wide open with hot pickups and the guitar volume rolled way back produces some of the best cleans I have heard, while opening everything up...
Any one know if Justin Shekoski is still at Suhr?
Dude has been helpful/friendly to me in the past but I have not been able to get ahold of him via his @Suhr email for well over a year.
The stage left guitarist uses a Peavey 3120 boosted with a Seymour Duncan 805. Stage right guitarist uses the Hiwatt SuperHi 50 straight into the head with no overdrives or boosts.
Love the regular D’Addario Nickel sets but the NYXLs always seem to be a bit stiff and lack the pop and vibrancy I like. I dunno if it’s the texture of the strings themselves or if there is a coating used in the manufacturing process but it almost feels like I’m playing flatwounds
Sounds great! Angry/gnashing and serrated.
I flip flop between the reg mode with the gain maxed or the Super Hi setting with the gain at about 1 o’clock. Both have their charms; the reg mode is cleaner/more articulate sounding with tons of aggression and the Super Hi mode is still pissed but...
The Aldrich was used on The Anthropocene Extinction, Death Atlas and Terrasite.
On a semi-related note I actually inquired with Suhr about doing an Aldrich with an Alnico 8 magnet a while ago. They said they would be happy to do it for me but that there would be a delay citing lingering...
Glad to see this amp getting some attention again! I’ve had the Super-Hi since Oct 2018 and am still very pleased with it.
Thanks for the comments on the posted video
(I am the guy on the left). As Bram576 said, for Death Atlas we blended the Super-Hi and a 6505. For our new record we again...
Jeremy,
Yup! I lurk here but post very infrequently.
Was able to try the aforementioned Super Hi and also picked up the 5-watt “Hi-5” that is also relatively new.
Am pretty impressed with the Hi-5; it’s a fun little amp that gets surprisingly loud and aggressive.
I have a Custom Super-Hi 50 and was able to play the Chinese version at Namm this year. Have to say, it is about 90+% of the way there when compared to the UK-made model.
It is PCB construction and I’m sure the transformers are not near the Partridge recreations that the Brit model has, but...
I generally use it with an Uberkab (2 V30s & 2 75s in an X pattern) live and at home a Satellite 2x12 with 8ohm Lynchbacks. After playing the prototype at Namm last year I was curious how much the Fane element came into play. I contacted Mike and posed the question and his response was that the...
Thank you sir! Hadn’t played at The Forge for several years and was glad to see they seemed to have stepped up multiple aspects of the venue since our last visit. Was a great tour and an honor to be asked to be a part of Frank’s last hurrah.
Also, as a former Illinoisan, it was good to see a...
Hey guys,
Long time lurker, first time poster. Anyway, I’m the fellow in the IG clip that was posted earlier. At the time the clip was shot I had only had the amp in my possession for a little over a week, so during the past few months (and after doing a lot of throw and go’s on tour with...
