I'll be seeing them next month too. I saw them in 1989 Open for Metallica & Honestly that night they were better than Metallica.

    EMG81: love/hate relationship

Yeah i did. That set just has more low end for some reason. I have a Beautiful Limited Edition Les Paul Standard that is a tad anemic in the low end & that set fixed that. I Put that set back into the original LP they came out of. Bought a Set of Anniversary EMGs and installed those....anemic in...

    EMG81: love/hate relationship

The Poles vs. Blades was what i was thinking would be very different. I've mostly heard it's slightly fatter in the lows like the early 81. My Set from 1996 has more lows than any other set i have. almost all of my other sets are quick connect, old logo from the early 2000's. I even have 3 sets...

    EMG81: love/hate relationship

and i keep hearing that the Het set sound like the older 81's from the 90's......which is when i bought my favorite set of Emg's. That set in my les paul standard will never come out but the rest of my les pauls will probably get switched over to passive pickups.

    EMG81: love/hate relationship

All you had to do was use a regular 81 with either the 18V Mod or the 24V Mod & it's near identical to the 81X. That's why the 81x was designed.....it was designed to mimic the openness of the 81 when running at 18 or 24v. Getting the 18v or 24v tone while still allowing the use of 1 9v battery.

Did you live in Ohio? Cause from my Understanding the POS that is/was Nathan Gale spent almost his entire life in Ohio. Now have some water or Gatorade & go to bed. Put down the Bottle of Alcohol & get some rest. I Want you to be at your best when you do my Prostate Check Tomorrow, OK? Nite Nite.

    EMG81: love/hate relationship

That "Crunch up" Or Distort i think is what makes me not enjoy EMG's like i did when i was younger. The Crunch up to me resides in the Higher Frequencies & sometimes gets labeled as sizzle....which i don't like on the lower strings.

Is Pantera’s Cemetery Gates one of the best songs in three decades

yeah it's the pickups(they are a very small part) & not the Multiple EQ's & outboard gear he had hooked up. take any of that away & the sound changes.
