    Dickey Betts died :(

RIP, Dickey. He was an inspiration. Last time I saw him perform was about 25 years ago in Milwaukee Summerfest street show. I was about 10 feet from the stage. His rig was cranking!

    Bassman love?

Yup... love my '65 stock Bassman! I have yet to f*ck with rewiring my 72 Pulsonic 1960B cab to 4 Ohms to plug the Bassman into it... may happen some day soon, though.

    Mark IIC+ footswitch knob?

If that was directed at my answer, it’s not a guess. It’s a fact.

    Mark IIC+ footswitch knob?

That’s known as the Petrucci mod - it’s a volume 1 mod that allows you to optimize the cleans to be “clean” while allowing all the grease and grind of the lead channel, without having to tweak either volume. It makes it a no-compromise two-channel amp.

What cab do I throw these speakers into?

I would go with the Metal-grill Mesa half-back. I had one set-up just like that with ‘81 G12-65’s. Sounded great. If you don’t have a back for the top, you could make one, if you wanted to tighten things up. Personally, I preferred the top open-backed.

    Cab shipping question

I shipped a ‘72 1960B I found while traveling in CA to my home in TX. The empty cab was packed at the UPS Store - all-in with ground shipping was $210. (I pulled the Pulsonics and packed them for war as checked baggage on my flight, so no cost to ship them). If the speakers were in the cab, the...

    Mark IIC+ Coli

It’s a mind blowing experience - my IIB / IIC+/++ KRG’s in dual mono were earth-shaking. Now, long since gone….

    Mesa IIA....

Yes, the IIA is uniquely voiced in the Mark series, with great cleans. Pull the gain boost (which bypasses the tone stack) and it brings it into dumblish zone. On the lead channel, there’s a lot of gain available (especially considering they were designed in mid-late 70’s), however, they aren’t...

Tube Testers ....... what are you guys using ????

Combination of things: old-school Dyna-Jet (checks shorts, grid emission & quality), a Vacuum Tube Valley preamp tube tester to check gain, balance and microphonics, and EuroTubes Pro1 for testing and biasing power tubes in-circuit.

NOT MINE - Mesa 2 C+ on reverb.

I have the same interpretation on the differences between the IVa and IVb. Personal preference was for the IVa for the reasons you cited.

What's the deal with Harry Joyce amps

I had been intrigued with these HJ amps, but for some reason, could never bring myself to buy one. Something just seemed OFF, to me. The only interactions I have had with the company was when they bought used Sugar Cone speakers from me. Not sure why they would do that? I mean… they’re the...

Top 5 amps of all time that you have owned and why?

The SRP’s range from $3K for the “baby” K19 up to around $6K for their newest model, the MK80. The K60 is $5K. Their build quality, component selection and service is among the best. Mine is 22 years old and operates flawlessly.
