OK this is just bullshit. I've just tried this and the MIDI thru port actually works now. ENGL's manual specifies in semi-broken English that setting DIP switch 6 to ON enables, "certain amp functions" without ever specifying that one of those "certain" functions is enabling the MIDI thru port...
