I have a Herbert MK3 and a Hagen. The VH4 would probably closer to a QR out of the "Big 3" Diezel heads. Even still, VH4 and QR are pretty dissimilar. One isn't better than the other imo. Just different. Diezel is probably more polarizing with their tone than Splawn.
I have 2 cabs with Silver Wolves mixed in. I love 'em. They mix nicely with a lot of speakers. Eminence and Celestion don't pair nicely imo. But the Silver seems to work well with either brand. I havent found a use for my Gray Wolves yet. I was considering replacing the two K100s in my Diezel...
Lol yeah it's a beast. I love it but there are times where I just want something toned down a bit 😂 It can get tiresome blasting that amp for extended periods of time. I've considered moving my QR on. The MGL covers the classic Marshall 800 tones pretty well for me.
I dabble but it mostly gets used by my longtime friend and old band mate who I'm still close with. I have a neighbor who is also a drummer and comes over from time to time.
As far as Quick Rod vs the Wizard, they're both rather tight and dry amps. The Quick Rod has a more 80's vibe to it? I...
I'd be lying if I didn't mention all the 90's rock and grunge that I grew up on that got me interested in playing. But as far as biggest guitar playing influences after I picked it up...
Metallica - Ride The Lightning
Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time
Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain
Katatonia...
Out of the 5 listed in my sig, the Splawn straight 412 with Creamback 75s on top and Weber Silverwolves on the bottom. I mainly use it for my Wizard MTL and Diezel Hagen.
That's why I sold my 6505. I get why it's a great amp. But after awhile it just collected dust. When it came time to plug into an amp, I often didn't want to deal with the brashness of it and I'd end up picking any other amp.
No, that's accurate. It has that Herbert low end looseness to it. I think the VH4 is tighter and sounds like it has a higher amount of negative feedback built into it which gives it it's extreme compression (which its detractors seem to hate). Hagen is definitely the least user friendly out of...
I will just say, it's a picky MFer and it's easy to make it sound bad. Every demo on YouTube is done with V30s and I hate that amp with V30s. I wish I could teleport people to my amp room so they can hear my setup for it 😅. I have an MK3 Herbert as well which works great with V30s. Hagen has...
I LOVE the Rockerverb and Thunderverb 200. IMO the Dual Dark suffers from lack of EQ controls, which gives it this inherently distortion pedal like quality. "Fixing" amps with an EQ pedal isn't a very appealing method but it gave a better idea of how it could have been a more formidable amp had...
Yeah, not too impressed. I have an Arrow NT and a 7 string Horizon. I rarely pick them up. The LTDs are more playable, sadly. And those are becoming overpriced too for no reason.
I don't get the E-II thing, at all. I have two of them, along with ESP Original Series and LTD 1000's. ESP Original plays like a dream, as expected. The E-IIs feel like thick painted cheap wood guitars with the fat necks you find on chibsons, but with "nice" Gotoh hardware. The E-II Arrow I have...
The negative feedback control is pretty common on modern amps. Some are on toggles and some are on pots. Off the top of head, my Ground Zero Hellion had one, the Uber Ultra has one, MGL has one on a toggle, the contour knob on Wizard MCII, Fortin amps, etc. Definitely not unique to Mezzabarba amps.
