As long as I was prepared and the band was at least competent, I’d think the more people would be easier because it does become a wall at some point. I never played for a tremendous amount 3/500 at most. As long as the band is solid, more people only excites me more.
I like Buxxom Boost a lot. Doesn’t change my sound, just pushes it to the next level. I don’t use the EQ, only the boost and tight knob. The tight knob is key on this pedal.
Soldano has more gain, thicker, smoother more modern sound. Searing midrange which makes it seem similar to a Marshall. I think SLOs so more like a Boogie MK mixed with a Hiwatt than Marshalls.
I don’t think there’s a lot of them out there, and they’re a bit pricey, for what they are (that’s not a knock). Shows that it’s a good unit because folks still want them.
I should mention that I’m planning on using the power amp in a wet/dry rig for a new band project. The main amp is an old SLO. I want to make sure whatever I use is going to be able to keep up with the SLO at stage volume, but I do want the best tone I can possibly get. If I could afford it, I’d...
I was looking at the 8008 at well. Two things concerned me about it: no tone controls and power. Is it 80 watts per side? (I don’t know a lot about power amps at all, particularly solid state power amps.)
On the other hand, Billy Gibbons used it, and Johan Segeborn said it’s good. Both those...
I don’t ever recall a time when he just used the Dual. He did only use the Marshall Super Bass early on. That Marshall is the only thing on the EP that came out before Undertow. Undertow and Aenma was the Mesa/Marshall combo. I think.
Great suggestions fellas. Really appreciate it. I’m learning a lot.
On the forum I linked above, they discuss the tonal differences between 4, 8, and 16 ohms. Long story short, it seems the lower the ohm load, the better the tone.
