Ok, so I got the 200 yesterday. Either it's defective or it just really likes a VERY low input signal. I had to cut my preset levels by half just to get the preamp clip light to shut off. Annoying. The 170 I had didnt have this issue. Of course the 170 doesnt have an input clip light, but still...

I had, and gigged a 170. Great power amp for modelers or preamp pedals. I used it with an 8 ohm 4x12 and had plenty of power. Never went past 2 o'clock on the volume. Incidentally, I have a powerstage 200 arriving today!

I have an RJM mini amp gizmo that has 8 switches. I used to control my XTC with it. I'm not sure if they still make it, but you could look for a used one.

Does the 20 watt have the balls? Is any sort of clean headroom possible? Or will I just be wishing I went all in on the 100?

So if the sweet spot for the 100 is the Output master at 6 or higher, is that way too loud for medium sized gigs? Or as mentioned above, get the master up and bring the overall db's down via the loop?

Of course another option would be to send my 2204 to Jeremy for some Ground Zero magic!
