Wasn't the BE loosely based on a Jose with added shaping options and a more modern low end anyway?
Don't remember why but that's always been my impression
I use the Slate VSX system only bc they seemed to have nailed the spatial thing and I don't need to apply loads of EQ or verb and room IRs.
Makes it more roomy and pleasant than room or eq correction software.
Suhr RL box and YA IRs mostly. All my Wizard needs then is a cut below 100hz and one...
my first guitar at age 12 (cheap copy) and probably my last.
once I found how I like them (light, A5 PUs, 57 or 60 neck carve) they’ve become my fav after 25yrs of playing super strats. I’m about to take a break and revisit the PRS CU24 but as soon as one per above spec comes up for sale at...
that's a bit hard to do bc it's in my head. I played through a CCV present on an AXE and liked the clunk of it, which I also hear in JCM800. I thought if my Wiz had smidge of that it would be even more killer..
yeah but if that amp, say a Marshall or mod, doesn't feel and behave like the Wizard my life will get complicated again.. I'm more inclined to try something like the Myasnikov CCV pre or a Syn module through the Wiz tbh, perhaps the BE-DLX. that way, in my mind at least, I preserve the back end...
My impression too from owning mine for 8mo - it can resemble some characteristics found in Marshalls and other amps but doesn't sound like any in particular, which ain't a bad thing. So I'm not trying to make it like something else, rather bring out some of that character (if it's there at all)...
Any tips? can't find where this exists in the dials as they're so interactive and it's a slightly different kind of top end and high mids the amp brings (yeah ok maybe that's the answer but still..)
Things that help but don't work too well:
-Suhr koko v1 with toggle in the middle. it brings 'it'...
I play every day for up to an hour and more in the weekends but as I'm releasing my own music, my time is spent perfecting takes and tone-chasing and that becomes a boring drag. I feel the most creative and 'hungry' when I get to editing and mixing stage but if I cave and grab a guitar, shit...
years of waiting and anticipation culminating in what looks like a thread from a male foot fetish site, if those exist..
The nudity keeps going up from feet to calves to knees and I'm worried that by p.13 of the thread we'll see dick.
Waiting to listen to the amp once everyone is done showing...
Just tried this very quickly and through the line in at the back of my apollo i'm getting a slight bump around 500hz - makes it slighly less 'open' vs the through the HZ it sounds a bit more balanced across the frequency range. we're talking marginal difference though..
Use case is home recording but I prefer 100W - it's the only nuance affecting tone and feel that I can discern.
I'll probably trial the syn1 + kali module during the 14 day grace window and if I like it sooo much and want another amp to have with my Wizz, I'll get a Gower Jose one.
The worry...
hit and miss for me and I've been at it since the start of covid when I went from exclusively gigging cabs to strict home recording via IRs.
I do believe people who say if you find a good IR and dial it right with the right amp, it's indistinguishable but I've also experienced amps that simply...
I had one of the newer ones too and there was nowt wrong with it other than me likely using it wrong. compared to the early HR50+ I had, the BAD SLO was 'more' amp in all regards.
I did feel that it's a bit of an acquired test even though it sits in the modded Marshall tone territory...
Overall positive, not the easiest most forgiving amp to play but works extremely well for most stuff. Only thing I've not been able to get out from it is good lower gain crunch sounds but I suspect it also has to do with the digital back end of my setup. I'm positive I'll figure that out eventually.
