I went back for a Computer Science degree many (many) years ago because my Mechanical Engineering degree didn’t fit what my job had morphed into. I had to take two semesters of senior level Calculus for a F’n CS degree (after not having a math class for more than 20 years). When I asked why, they admitted that they were trying to discourage people because too many were signing up for that degree program. WTF? Thanks, Purdue. But, I digress… I spent 4-6 hours every single evening for an entire year getting through those semesters. I am hard-wired for STEM topics, even if I have to work at them. It would take significant effort to get back to that level (I haven’t used any of it in my job, duh…), but the motivation to get it right drives me. I’m a nerd 😀

Yeah I had to take pre-Calc and Businesses Calc for my degrees......

Well I didn't have to and I could have taken Statistics but went the harder route. Pretty much those who weren't smart enough to do Calc did Statistica and Analytics as it was a lower form of math.

Probably the hardest thing about it especially when dealing with differentential equations, limits and derivatives aside those things themselves is understanding the concept of infinity or trying to grasp ones head around it truly. This and plugging in equations as in lower maths one could plug in equations to the calculator and get the right answer......

In Calc and higher maths one really has to understand the basics like the Associative Property and order of operations and apply "invisible" brackets to make up for what is there but take for granted sometimes. I'd spend hours and hours on the math lab too..... Was only one of 2 or 3 students in my class that could fully plug in equations and get the right answer. Everyone else had to enter equations in bits and pieces and the put it together like a puzzle piece.

I spent about 20+ hours or more at the math lab a week..... And go on Saturdays too and Sundays...... I logged in more hours than anyone else in my PreCalc class too.....

Its fun IMO and yeah it's not really needed but it's more for the critical thinking aspect than the practical application although there are many practical applications if one puts their mind to it.

Sometimes....... I have to say as boring as it sounds...... I miss the Math Lab sometimes and Calc..... And listening to music and making sense of the numbers and the universe..... It was fun and can be fun sometimes......

These are derivatives right but like basic ones...... Or what are they?!? Its been 7+ years since I've seen higher maths......

Still complex math but you know what I mean 😂
a Derivative is the instantaneous rate of change of a function. Most of the “complex” can go away quickly by either rewriting the equation and combining terms or some basic isomorphism. Even complex stuff becomes really easy if you understand the basic concepts.
