Ok so the stock V1 + V2 12AX7 tube sockets on my JCM800 were broken and needed replacing.

I got 2 new B9A sockets and they wont fit. Neither will the ceramic B9A sockets i also bought. The hole in the chassis is ever so slightly too small to accomodate them.

Whats the best way to deal with this issue? What do i use to make the hole in the chassis bigger?

Thanks!
Dan

Are you sure you can't mount the sockets from the top down?

Hey Pete, i tried already and they wont fit either way.

By the looks of it, the stock sockets seem  a tiny bit smaller, maybe like a millimeter or something.

Also, are you sure you got the right socket?? If you did, and the hole is still too small, then I would definitely go the dremel route.

Dremel tool, but cover stuff up so metal sand { hey, a band name! } dosent get in

Yeah definitly looks like a job for the Dremel now you guys mention it.. Il have to give it a go later!

Cheers!

Why not get a correct socket? You should be able to get them easily on the net.

Hey Dave,

I have tried several different sockets which are meant to be technically the correct size. And none of them fit..

Which sockets do you know of which are an actual drop in replacement for the ones in the JCM800?

Maybe shave the ax7 socket down rather than the 800 chassis? No metal sand!

I got a bunch of NOS sockets from Angela.com

That looks cool.. only problem is its like a minimum order of $50 for international orders AND the shipping ontop is minimum $35  All i need is about 3 or 4 of em.

I wonder if i should just go ahead and make the chassis holes a tiny bit bigger with the Dremel and call it a day.

Have you tried contacting Marshall customer service?

I could try that.. Although i would imagine the only replacements they would have, are for the JCM800 RI's and all their current amps which use the same socket i already bought and it wouldnt fit.

there are 1" and 3/4" sockets... which did you get? I wouldnt want to dremel out a 1/4" of sheet metal.

3/4" sockets, and theyre too big

Also a tapered reamer would work well. Also a great tool to have around if you do work like this or work on guitars often.
