I have a Ceriatone 2203 copy that is of course a 2203 style amp, but with a turret/PTP board instead of PCB and also has a full/half power (pentode/triode) switch. I am considering putting a Lar Mar PPIMV in just to drive the PI tube harder at lower overall volume because it is so insanely loud to try to drive the PI tube harder with the regular 2203 master volume. Once I install the PPIMV I will check out how it sounds using the stock master and PPIMV together at different settings, but then figure I may go farther with some other changes similar to yours around V1A and V1B depending on what I find with just the PPIMV added.
Do these mods translate well to the cascade that is already in the 2203 with just a few cap and resistor value changes instead of the one wire mod style of cascade that is required to cascade the V1A and V1B in 1959 or 1987 Super Lead type of head? In other words, do the various cap and resistor combos (820 Ohm/.68 uF on V1B and .68 or 1 or 25uF over V2A's 820 Ohm and lower the 10K cold clipper on V1B or add a cap, etc.) work well on a 2203 with the stock master volume and the PPIMV installed and using them to together? Hope I'm making some type of sense with what I'm asking. It's too damn early for me to try to ask a clear question. LOL.
Thank you!!
When someone brings me a 2203/2204 I'll change it over to a 1959/1987 circuit and start modding the amp from there by adding a PPIMV and my style "one wire mod"
I usually go over the basics of my mods with people but the preamp circuit tweaks, you're on your own.
I can't possible tweak your preamp circuit without hearing and feel it in person. It's not "cookie cutter" as ever amp is different and needs different modifications to get the tone consistent.

Yeah, I can understand where you're coming from on the various preamp circuit tweaks and component values. I'm wondering where I will get with leaving the original master volume in the circuit and leaving V1B cascading into V1A and the "cold clipper" 10K cathode in place, but maybe lower value. I know the original master has a sort of loading effect on the signal path. I'm wondering if it will work well with the PPIMV added and sort of blending the two together at different settings. No doubt every amp is different, you are right about that. I've found the same to be true.
You can try this old mod I designed awhile ago for the 2203/04 circuit. With this mod you don't need a PPIMV installed.

Real nice man!
But why do all of your amp projects get the Rig-Talk mod?

just kidding. I remember you explaining it one time. Wouldn't hurt to do that again or may put a little disclaimer at the bottom of all your New R/T Mod Day threads to remind us of what is going on there. Can we assume you are getting some business by posting here?![]()
Thank you kindly sir!!![]()
I own a Dodge Charger Hemi R/T so that's where the R/T comes from and it stands for "road & track" and not rigtalk.
Michael R/T is a nickname some friend have gave me years ago and a handle I've been using online for years.
How it ended up as the name for my mods is a long story, I'll share that story later when I have more time on my hands.![]()
