Ok, so I have been waiting a little while to get this. I sent him an SS100. I had him change the SS gain channel to the BE gain channel and had the boost changed to the HBE. So, that will be foot switchable. I really like the cleans on the SS, but the gain channel was a little dark and I prefer the BE gain. I also like tighter amps so I had the response control/negative feedback control that's on the BE50 deluxe added also, and a couple other things. I am really fired up!!

Well, it's about time! What was it, a year??

Feels like a year with the anticipation of getting it upgraded, any amp I've sent off I start counting the days.....

You percieved it as dark, That fact is that it simply has the SS has for the most part the same preamp as the BE, but has an audio taper treble vs. a typical linear taper. 2:30 -3:00 would likely be a similar setting to and audio taper at noon

I always dug the SS. Great amp! It, and the Cantrell have been my favorite Friedman offerings. I found them a bit warmer/dryer, in a good way!

I wanted it to sound more aggressive and tighter than the normal BE.

Another thing I've seen is using higher values pots and throwing a resistor across it to change both the value and taper. As you know, the taper changes with a resistor across the pot. Little tricks people might not realize.

I went the opposite route. I had my BE-100 clean channel modded to the SS100 clean. I had the Response and Depth controls added as well.

I had an SS100 at the same time as the BE. I really liked the SS100 gain channel. It's a tough call between it and the BE. But, I still have the BE so...
