I recently had an opportunity to play another 1959RR and was surprised how different it sounded from mine, especially on the first channel (stock). The one I played was much cleaner and harder sounding whereas mine breaks up nicely and compresses a bit more...I actually prefer it to the modded channel for a hard rock/classic metal tone. In fact my modded channel doesn't really seem to have too much more gain the the stock. Both amps have their stock tubes very low playing time. It was different enough that I opened it up to see if something was wired funky but nothing appeared out of order. I know old Marshalls could vary greatly in tone but is that common with the newer ones?

Here's some Blackberry shots I took while it was opened up:

Does it break up quick through the first channel? This one does moreso than any Marshall JMP that I've ever owned/played (probably a dozen or so over the years) and much more than the other RR I just played.

Yep it's breaking up at 2. Not really any clean to be had with mine.
