I need a used 1x12 that's easy enough to carry around and will fill up a jam room or possibly small stage mic'd. I'm going used in my area (DFW) and see an Avatar Vintage 1x12 and the Orange PPC 1x12. Both are the same price.

Any experiences with both or either and what are your thoughts on sound and durability?

Thanks!

I have a PPC112. It's a pretty-looking cab that is built very well. Hell, if you look inside the cab, it's much better put together than my British Marshall 1960. It sounds good in the room too, but I feel my friend's Mini Recto 1x12 sounds more up-front, and overall, slightly better.

Under the mic, it's a whole different story, though. I feel Orange cabs in general are kinda hard to mic. This is no exception. For some reason, it sounds super boxy mic'd up. Like I said, in the room, it sounds fine. You won't mistake it for a 4x12, but it more than gets the job done, but under the mic, it's pretty much unusable.

I guess what I mean to say is it gets my thumbs up unless you plan to do some recording with it. If so, avoid.

I agree with the above post, standing in front of the orange is fine but mic'd up and thru inears or a PA is just weird. Ended up putting some batten material on the walls and back of the cab and it sounded much better mic'd up. I think the heavy grill material helps smooth out the V30.

Avatars are OK I have had several different ones and they are just OK as best...

I am looking for a 1X12 as well and seems the Mesa and Bogner/Suhr/CAE cubes are the go to boxes...All are ported as also..

Thanks, guys. My budget is $250 and it's just a for rehearsals at our other drummers place, so I won't be mic'ing it. Just need it to hold together at studio jam rehearsals.

Cheers!

...you did say in OP you might be mic'ing on a small stage :dunno:

What speaker is in the Avatar? I had an Avatar 2x12 trad and had a very good experience with it both quality and tone wise. May not quite be on a Mesa or Mills kind of QC level but worth every penny I paid for it. Would not hesitate on that Avatar if it was the right speaker.

Yeah, you're right. ...This would be more of just practice amp; I've got another 1x12 that I'd use, but for small gigs, I'm using my Friedman 2x12.

Speaker is a V30 chinese.

MOJO? I like mine a lot. I also have orange, Avatar, Mesa, etc. They are all nice IMO.

I guess I am not the only one who has problems with micing oranges.
