Saw Kotzen on Tuesday in a small club in Belgium. 2nd time seeing him this in the same club. Last time he probably had just a bit to much of our great Belgian beers as he wasn't very consistent throughout the night. This time though, he was ON. He sounded better, played better, was more entertaining. The guy pretty much has it all, killer voice, chops, amazing tones. He only played his red tele through his Cornford signature amp with a Zoom pedal in the loop. It's all in the touch and riding the volume control. He can be a bit to weedly-weedly at times but he likes to push himself as much as possible. His does some amazing mid-gain runs with great string clarity.
Got to meet Hunter and his lovely fiancee after the gig and had a quick chat as they were heading out to get something to eat. Always nice to run into fellow gearheads. We'll have to do a little ampfest soon though!
Yesterday evening, we saw Alice In Chains and I can say that it was one of the best rock-shows I have ever seen. They played for a packed house in Antwerp and the show was nothing short of amazing from start to finish. I was looking forward to hearing Duvall do all those famous songs and the guy sounded really good. Cantrell's tone was as good as it gets, really fat sounding and his lead tone is stunning. The entire show sounded really really good, the setlist was pretty much perfect and their show was very cool with some tongue-in-cheek stuff (chewing cow in sync with Jerry's wah during Rooster etc). The crowd was very cool and you could see they were enjoying the hell out of it. BIG smiles on stage when the entire audience was singing along during Down In A Hole and No Excuses, which they did on acoustic.
If you like some good rocking out, AIC is a MUST SEE. I had high expectations and they sure delivered.
Setlist:
Rain when i die
Again
Them bones
Dam that river
Your decision
Check my brain
Love, hate, love
It ain't like that
A looking in view
Acoustic:
Down in a hole
No excuses
Black gives way to blue
God am
Acid bubble
Angry chair
Man in the box
Encore:
Lesson learned
Would?
Rooster
